Finished my goal! Health and armor bars are complete. I didn't do the whole HUD, because I was adding slidable crates into my game. ^_^ They're still pretty ruint though.

Just a TDS engine. I'll make a game out of it, though, eventually. I might port it to FlashPunk as well.

Ok, I'm done! I did the swinging a bit differently so I can't provide a gif now, but it works rather well. For once I'm happy with my special effects.

Aaaaaaaaand.... FAILED!

While technically the deadline date hasn't expired yet (I was going to try to buy some time by timezone excuses and how when I said 4/4/2011 I meant in base 16 so it was really meant to mean April 4th 8209A.D.), and it would have been very exhilarating to race to the finish, I just decided to pull a major change in how planets work and are colonized in my game which completely negates any slim chance of me finishing in time for midnight.

Here's what I've done:

- have a working camera - CHECK!
- background  - CHECK!
- star systems - CHECK!
- planets - CHECK! - but decided to rework
- fleets - NOPE
- persons - NOPE (emperor is done, but he is a special case.
- empires - CHECK!
- and passage of time - CHECK!

Screenshot:
Doesn't look like much, but porting graphics is secondary to code functionality for now.

Looking back, it is great that I managed to do this much while still maintaining a day job and other hobbies. I also coded in some additional stuff not on the list - such as Species, Modifiers (it's how stuff affects stuff in the game, such as technologies, traits, skills etc.), resources and resource pools, the emperor, etc. So I've been really productive! Real interesting thing is that I have really enjoyed setting a goal in this thread and pursuing it, it did me good. So (head suitably bowed in shame) I would like to set my next deadline and raise the bar just a bit.

Two more weeks - April 18th 2011.

To finish :
- moving fleets with commands and ships
- troops and armies
- persons / agents
- and in addition, the new planetary region/slot/population system.
- tappable resources on planetary regions

Been working on how keyframes and controls are stored and accessed in the timeline, and how those read/write to/from the time entities.  Once that's stable, ship controls should be pretty quick.

So, once again, ship rotation/thrust controls in Time Commander prototype.  Deadline: 4/11

I have a quick goal for myself tonight. I've been using AS3 + FlashPunk, so this is pretty foreign.

Checklist of goals to finish, really.
-Weapon array
-Weapon switching
-Shooting
-Graphics for respective weapon.

Deadline? 4 hours. That's right.

I'm assuming you meant April 19.  Let me know if you intended something else.

Heya, Andy.  Wink

And if you miss your deadline, I can point and laugh at you in person when I come into the office.

Okay, once again, I've failed the thread, but the thread has not failed me.  I didn't get ship controls working in Time Commander yet, but the accountability got me working on it quite a bit.  The prototype so far has been hacked together (I'm using the "find the fun" methodology of prototyping), and I knew at some point I'd need to back up and re-engineer it a bit after discovering what needs to be covered with the first draft prototype.  Well, I've reached that point.  Storing physics keyframes and control frames in a timeline and modifying and resimulating them from an arbitrary point forward (while simultaneously displaying from the keyframes) is pretty complex, and what I have now is ridden with problems when trying to modify control frames.

So, my goal for next Monday (the 18th) is to start the prototype from scratch (using my existing code for reference) and at least get up to displaying stuff from the timeline.

Oh, I thought the deadline I set was for the 15th. Failed, I guess, but I'm pretty close Tiger Might make what I thought my deadline was.
