So a few of us on the Octodad team only recently stumbled upon the TIGForums and I realized there wasn't an Octodad thread. Some of you may have already tried the game, but we always love to hear more feedback! Try it out if you get the chance. Trailer:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lVoSYDWX2IgSynopsis:Octodad is a third person adventure game about destruction, deception, and fatherhood. The player controls Octodad, a dapper octopus masquerading as a human, as he goes about a day of his life. His existence is a constant struggle, as he must master mundane tasks with his unwieldy boneless tentacles while simultaneously keeping his cephalopodian nature a secret from his human family. http://www.octodadgame.comAvailable for PC and MAC. Although the MAC version is still a bit buggy because it's in beta. http://octodadgame.com/download.php

I played this a month or two ago. It's truly hilarious. Flopping my arms wildly at things has never been so fun.

Yeah I loved it. The gameplay was leaps and bounds funnier than the script, which is something few games have done. That's kind of a backhanded insult, as there's a lack of depth in how characters act, the cut-scenes, and the challenge scenarios themselves. I know this was a student project on a deadline though, so I cut it some serious slack.
I would love to see him get up, go to work, pick up kids, go shopping etc. There's a lot I expected from the game because the mechanic is very solid.
Again, very very funny and all the nongamer friends I've shown it to love it too.

I played it shortly after release. It is a super-cool idea and very well realized too, but the game crashed halfway through as I entered one of the rooms (the nursery I think). Was that fixed in some way?

I think it may have been fixed in the newest version. We were/are having some issues with our video player/encoder Theora and so it sometimes crashes when loading videos.
There is more Octodad on the way though, and during, or a few weeks after, GDC we will be releasing a version of the game with three new levels. We'd like to release an update to automatically add them to current builds, but I don't think that will happen because a lot of things have changed on the tech side that would make the old builds incompatible with the new levels/features.
We're looking to get some support at GDC and hopefully put out some sort of commercial sequel some time in the future that would be much more polished/lengthy. We've also got some Kinect controls going using the OpenNI/NITE middleware, but we aren't sure whether we'll be releasing that publicly or not quite yet. I might have some other stuff to share with you guys soon regarding Kinect though.

This is one of my favorite 3D games. It reminds me of every time I ran Mario of a cliff in SM64 because the controls were floaty and I wasn't that good, but in a good way. Basically it takes the frustration I feel whenever I play a third-person 3D game, magnifies it, then says "That's the point, actually. Somehow this works for me...

For me too. It reminds me a little of Sumotori, the physics-based fighting game, where you were battling to stay upright as much as you were fighting an opponent. The resident Evil games famously give you a 'broken' control system, but do so in order to exaggerate the horror rather than the comedy. Congratulations on Octodad. It's definitely one of the most enjoyable games I've played. I'll have to grab the latest version (with my 8 wobbly arms) and give you some more constructive feedback.

Thanks for the info. Looks like I'll have to try out the newest version then. And then wait for some even more enhanced ones.

Loved it. In particular, I loved how accurate it is at simulating what it's like being a cephalopod trying to maintain the illusion of being human, which is obviously a pretty universal experience. *checks URL - damn, this isn't SquidSource! Wrong forum...* Okay, so maybe not all of the rest of you are octopi. But yeah, the game does nail that feeling of being a big gangly overgrown kid, uncomfortable and clumsy in your own skin, trying to pass yourself off as a Sensible and Wise and Responsible Adult, and it does it in a way that's amusing rather than harrowing. So that's good Looking forward to seeing where Octodad goes after this.

Played it, beat it, enjoyed it a lot.
My only gripe is the camera is just a pain. I actually felt the most control during the credits when the camera was fixed. I felt myself fighting the camera a lot while I played... It would zoom up close and in front of the Octodad so I had trouble seeing anything I was doing. Pressing A/D to rotate the camera didn't always work... sometimes it would just not let me rotate around. (I'm guessing because the camera was getting stuck on stuff)
Overall, it was fun. The camera was just way too zoomed in for my taste.

We're currently working with a build where the camera is completely player controlled as far as when it rotates, but we've also been implementing a lot more static cameras when they seem appropriate. So hopefully that will help everyone out when we release our next version of the game.

Good to hear you're working on the camera, everyone who tried it in our office said that they couldn't play it because the camera was punitive.
The wobby arms and legs are fun. The camera wasn't.

I played this game when it first came out and loved it. My girlfriend and I are still making Octodad jokes several months later. More please.
