Hello!
Bleeding Knees' here with a game I would like you to try out.

It's a small game trying to be harmonic while still creating a hook to beat the highscore.
I've gotten some feeback on it being to hard from casusal gamers... but i dont think that's the case. what do gamers think?

Feedback
  • I would like you to try it out and see if  you get a hang of it with out instructions.
So tell me if you got it or if it is something that was confusing. Or if you outright just gave up with out understanding it. Did you find the speed boost?
  • Also post your general highscore and in how many plays you got it. I want to get a feeling of how hard the game is and how long it takes to get somewhere.
  • And also some general feedback. Did you like it? How much did you play? Something that irritated you? Something that you liked?

Try it out and tell me what you think!

I did not get the hang of it. The first time I just wandered around picking up the dropped black shapes and clicking the mouse to trade them in for points or something. Eventually the counter got up to 15 or something and I died from all the projectiles flying at me at around 7300 points.
After that, continued to try to figure the game out, except I seemed to die much faster each time getting either 2500 to 5000 points. I could see a meter or something in the background but could not connect it to a particular pickup or event. I eventually found I could dash and had a dash meter, but I still died alot and by now the counter was at 26 and the screen was filled with projectiles. Eventually, I collected enough shapes at once or something and my unit seemed to blow up all the generators but I still died quickly from all the dropped shapes on the field firing at me with 12500 points. I also noticed the counter went down to 0.
I only got about 2 real plays with 6 or more experimentations trying to figure it out. Assuming you're supposed to play the game differently than I was playing it, it could be interesting, but I really don't know how its supposed to work in terms of not getting blown up.

Hi. Thanks for playing!
I just found a bug that makes the game not reset some values when dying. So the game gets almost impossible to learn. It just gets harder and harder every time you die. :D

I'm not home right now but later tonight I will fix it and upload a new version.
I will also try to get the concept a little bit clearer. But maybe, if the game doesnt kill you so fast people will get a hang of it from trail and error.

I'll upload a new version later today, and it would be nice if you have a second go then and see if you can figure it out when you get some more breathing space

New version up!
So far only changed that value that didnt reset but I think it should be enough to give you space to learn. Give it an other try!

(I, among others, am crunching on a project; lots of people are busy preparing either for GDC or the Versus competition right now.  Otherwise I would definitely give this a spin.)

I tried the game again and got 36000 on my best try out of about 3 or 4. Still not sure of the function of the pluses and boxes, except that some give you points and some give you health/energy (maybe both do both) and after getting enough energy, you destroy all the spawners, except then you're vulnerable to projectiles.

I got like 12100, thought it was pretty fun!

as much as I hate tutorials, i really think this game could use a brief one. maybe just a legend that says what to go for and what to avoid.

and i found the speed boost on my second try, wasted it all and then died right after WTF

also, i can't figure out how the hell to defeat those little squares that look like erasers that chase you...do i just run away from them?

good work though! Smiley

thanks for playing guys!

@ falmil & ohgr: did you understand that the meter in the middle of the screen is connected to when you are vulnerable and when the spawners die?
the meter goes up when you left-click to "devourer" the pluses and boxes you have collected. the meter goes down when you get hit by projectile (small dots and "erasers" Smiley that follow you). when the meter is full you kill spawners, when its empty you will die if you get hit.

@ ohgr: no you cant kill the erasers. they like missles, but maybe that isn't to clear. will have to think of making that clearer.

@ falmil: when you say health are you referring to the meter in the middle of the screen? pluses and boxes are supposed to be recognized as enemies. when you collect them and then left click you get points. the more enemies you gather before you left-click the bigger your multiplier is and the bigger your score gets. left-clicking also charge upp the "spawner-killer"-thing and your speed boost.

will work some on how the colors and forms are interpreted!
