Well it's always ambiguous with these generation things, but 1989 is pretty solidly in the Gen Y area.  People typically say Gen Zed starts in the mid 90's or early 2000's.

Probably not a lively thread but wanted to make sure this was here before I posted a thread about this game.

I wanted to say its great to have a commercial, big budgeted game that is not only original to its core but fits my genre. We don't see lot of action-adventure, actionRPGs or 3rd person action titles being produced & when they are, they try to hard & they're generic or aim for the same audience. My p3 is anxious, as am I.

I played the demo and it was rather. . .  Plain and repetitive. While it IS aesthetically  pleasing, the gameplay lacks.  The platforming was annoying too.  Making short precision jumps is incredibly tedious and distracts from the main gameplay focus which seems to be the combat.  That's mostly the repetitive part, I'd assume there are more weapons to use, and maybe it adds a bit more variety to what I thought was a very bland combat system.  The new weapons are fun for a bit;  but then you realize it's just MASH MASH MASH MASH MASH MASH MASH MASH.  Maybe if it was a bit more like the Ninja Gaiden games for the Xbox/360, with combos and whatnot.

Perhaps there's going to be more variety in the finished product.

@Imp: So it's basically all style, no substance? That's what I feared, seeing as the guy at the helm of the project is an art director and all. They were probably on a tight budget and spent all their resources on graphics. Shame.

I wonder why people kept calling the game cell shading, its totally not like 100% of other cell shade game. Okami is on the same boat Huh?

It's like saying mobius artwork is akin to betty boop style, or MAD is like disney or robert crumb is like manga because they are all comics style ... pure non sense.

By the way it's either that or realistic brown or saturated cartoon, what else game dev can think of?

i disagree with IMP entirely.

the "point" isn't the combat, the point is the sense of flow; something that both elements are required to coexist to produce properly. and its sense of flow is fantastic - in this respect, it is quite obvious that the main direction was an artist rather than a programmer or engineer or something of that sort.

that isn't to say it is all style and no substance - the mechanical workings of the game must work well enough to upload this kind of flow, otherwise it'll be shattered. and they do. the depth in the game is larger than one would initially believe: the issue i believe IMP had is that it was quiet. it wasn't obvious nor was it necessarily required. i was discovering new layers to the combat every few minutes up until the conclusion of the demo.
