Wow, this is looking great! Shocked

Something I noticed is that when the characters are talking they change their pose/expression very abruptly, that jumped out a lot to me. It's kind of distracting.

Besides that it's looking awsome, keep it up!  Smiley

I'm not in love with the art style, but it grew on me after seeing it in motion. The animations are great, and the characters have a lot of life. There are a few things bothering me in your texts ('Well...thanks.' instead of 'Well... Thanks., ...? instead of ..?, !? instead of ?!, and beginning a sentence with the word but), but that's not something that would ruin the game for me, and even less so for most of the audience, haha. That's just me being pedantic.

I like the music! It fits in and doesn't interfere with the voice acting (which is nice too, even though I prefer British English). I just recently tried out Monkey Island for the iPad, without really having any previous experiences with this kind of games, and I really liked it, even though it was a bit too hard for me, and I ended up pressing the screen with three fingers to get clues a lot of the time, so I am definitely interested in playing this when I get my iPad in about a month, even though I guess it won't be released by then, but at least I'll have an iPad when it does!

Keep going. I'll stay tuned.

Oooh, man! I totally remember when you guys came out with original Detective Grimoire. I really enjoyed that game. I'm looking forward to seeing this completed. Smiley

Edit: Just to sate my own curiosity, I went back in Newgrounds and read my old review of the original Detective Grimoire. I had forgotten about "the eye," which kind of broke the first game. You're not including that in the new one, are you?

Yeah, the videos are just test conversations, not the in-game real thing. They'll be kept less abrupt in the game. Thanks though! Smiley

The text in the videos wasn't the final script. The script has now been written though, and scrutinized for this sort of thing - I'm a stickler for it, just like you!

I need to get my hands on an iPad too, for testing and such. I'm pretty excited to see it on the larger screen!

Thanks, glad you recognized it! There's no more eye stuff in this game, we're keeping it simple and detectivey!

Wow, it's been a while since I posted huh? My bad!

So a lot has happened since last we spoke. The background art is entirely finished! The script is written and sent out to the voice actors and we're getting lines back thick and fast! Our soundtrack is nominated for an award (best free creation)!

Also, I've just put up a new official site for the project, along with a teaser trailer. All the graphics you see in the video are in-game, no pre-rendered cut-scenes for us, no sir. So if you have a moment to spare, head on over and check it out.

We've just uploaded a video of the first 7 minutes of gameplay. Well, it's not exactly a gameplay video, but every single asset apart from the fake cursor is taken right from the game. A real gameplay video will be coming soon.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xwHaGq3_XYQ

Sorry for the sound sync issues near the end, problems capturing and exporting the video!

I can also announce officially that this game is being created in Adobe AIR for iOS/Android. Initially I was building it in cocos2d, but AIR suddenly got really good and all the animations were being done in Flash anyway, so it was a really quick catch up port to AS3.

We'll be targeting both tablets and phones, possibly desktops too if we can!

Oh wow, no posts since October? Definitely my bad, I think I forgot I had this DevLog here!

SO! The game is VERY nearly done at this point. It's taken a lot longer than we thought, but it was worth the extra time we put in. Here's what's been going on!

Voices Complete!
We cast the final character's voice actor, a very talented chap by the name of Michael Patterson. All of the VAs have recorded all their lines, save a few extras we might need to add now and then. They've all done an amazing job!

Cutscenes!
Adam, the artist/animator of our team, decided that the game should have a bunch of fully animated cutscenes, some short, some long. Cue me trying to find the best balance of size and performance for fullscreen video. Most of the cutscenes are finished, and you can see some of the results below. First is a gif for easy sharing/difficult stealing, so ignore artefacts and off colours.

Animated Environments!

While there's always been some movement on most screens, we decided that we'd like to really bring the swamp alive, with some animated areas! Almost all the areas now feature a lot more animation than before, and we're really happy with the result! Here's a short gif (that loops badly)

A Release Date!

Sort of. We're hoping to be able to launch this August, all things permitting. It's been a long project, and it's been hard, financially and otherwise, but probably the most fun I've had working on a game.

I just can't believe the beauty this game emanates.  By far one of the prettiest indie titles I've seen.  Definitely keeping an eye on this.  Fully animated cut-scenes?  You guys are crazy!
