I maybe about to make myself unpopular, but I loved Fallout 3, and loved New Vegas even more. Fallout 2 might still be my favourite, but to call F3 "Oblivion with guns" is pretty unfair, I think.

I think it was the quests in fallout 3 that made me really dislike it. I enjoyed wandering around the wastelands but such obvious 'destroy the city or save it' missions and plot lines involving silly things like vampires just look childish compared to the writing of the second game.
In a fantasy setting you can get away with good vs evil, hells minions are evil and that's that, but the people of fallout are all shades of grey.

Basically every Worms game after World Party (with the exception of Worms 3D and its sequel, which weren't classics or anything, but did represent a really good go at moving the series in a new direction).

I agree wholeheartedly, I appreciate what they tried with Worms3D, but the new 2D worms games are terrible, they don't feel like Worms games.

Star Ocean 4, Grandia 3, Sonic 4, and anything past FF9 in the final fantasy series make me cry at night. The End.

The second Zelda on NES. "Craptastic" is a good way to describe it. Side-scrolling with a weird permadeath / upgrade ("RPG") system, irrc. And the main character wore such short shorts..

Not to mention constant lag on the overworld when enemies spawn and a skin-colored sword in an inconvenient place.

I actually really liked/still like Zelda II.  It's got kind of the same stigma against it that Doki Doki Mario has, but if you view it as something separate from the series they came in, they are good games in their own right.  Then again, I liked Battle of Olympus, which many people seem to hate, so I'm probably in the minority.

SMB2 USA is fantastic, it's just that it wasn't originally a Mario game. Really, I have finished this game more times than I can remember and will keep doing it because it's one of the most fun platformers ever made. And Zelda II was pretty good too in my opinion, I enjoyed it a lot. And it had great music.

I'm surprised the thread has gotten this far without mentioning MOO3.  It killed off one of the best strategy series on the PC.  The early Master of Orion games are often compared favourably to the early Civilization ones.

Agreed. They're the black sheep of the series, but Zelda II and Majora's Mask are actually my favorite Zelda games.

Never played Battle of Olympus, but I've watched a bunch of videos of it on YouTube...definitely looks like something I would've loved as a kid.

Zelda 2 is good, everyone who hates just can't get over the fact that it was "different".

Doki Mario Bros 2 is decent as well.

Another good sequel everyone hates is Simon's Quest, but I think we may the AVGN to "thank" for that. Before he became popular, I don't think I've ever heard someone call Simon's Quest a "bad" game, but then a lot of idiots who probably hadn't even played it jumped on the hate bandwagen.

Every Sonic game after Sonic 2 has left me completely cold, outside of Sonic Chaos (which is still my favourite). All of them. Yes, even Sonic 3. Yes even Sonic and Knuckles. But then, I was never a huge fan of the series in the first place.

i would, if the game didn't help get me through middle school =) the cliche'd ending of "hey look you're spending all your time in a virtual world" was a wake-up call to my 12 year old self -- it helped me evaluate my gaming consumption. still not anywhere near the original, though. how was the war of the lions psp remake?

Silent Hill: Homecoming was one of my least favourites.
