I finally made it to the third dungeon on Dark Cloud. Now that I finally have decent weapons for my characters, the game's a lot more fun, although hunting for keys to open up the next floor is getting reaaaalllllly old. I'm hoping the dungeon-crawling won't wear itself out before the game is over, but I still have at least two more dungeons to go after this one. *sigh*

I swore to myself I'd start Romancing SaGa 3 to go along with the Game Club, but I just haven't found the time yet.

Wow. I am on the final level of Zen Bound 2, which is more like the dead middle of the game because the difficulty curve is more like a difficulty parabola.

I cannot find any good information on how to get 100% on the "Concentration" level. There's a steam thread with one picture, but it only shows one angle and it is impossible to tell the strategy they used. Consequently, everyone seems to insist this is only the second hardest level but I can't even score 99%, let alone 100%. There's a youtube video walkthrough, but it's by a game company that considers 96% to be good enough.

This is going to drive me mad over the weekend, because this is literally the final level and I just can't give up when I'm one challenge away from complete victory. I can't even tell what I'm doing, whether this spot or that spot is worth more points because the grading mechanism is so opaque.

Then I can finally go back to Kid Icarus: Uprising. Playing that on intensity 9.0 is also difficult, but there at least I know my failures are the result of getting shot in the face.

I was gonna dig up your DevLog, but I'll get lost in DevLogs for 3 days, as usual! XD

So far, the level layouts are my favorite part of the game. The stamina is a wee bit on the generous side, although that could just be the DS experience talking. I did get caught up once or twice with low stam, but so did the pursuing Orcs, which balanced out a bit nicely. Maybe give them a *tiny* bit more stamina, enough to punish the player for mismanaging theirs, but not always enough to kill them outright (maybe 60-75% damage is fair, accounting for passive recovery).

Some kind of major boss/threat every 3-5 floors would round out the difficulty just about right. Level forks between them (they have a key), and an exit (which requires said key), where the battle can traverse the level (player strategically retreating/baiting the boss along the way) perhaps?

For a Beta, it's rather fun.

that's funny because i just slightly increased stamina regen the other day because i felt you had to backpedal too much. also pondering an option to lower your shield without wasting a turn cuz when you're surrounded by a bunch of weak enemies taking HP damage might be preferable.

bosses (well one boss) are going to be in the next build. it won't be mandatory to fight them for now though, they just drop a lot of souls as well as rare items. i'm going to have special items that only certain bosses drop in the future as well.

I finished Zen Bound 2, after a grueling battle with the final boss, S&M Buddha. But it feels good to have accomplished that. If you don't care for 100% the game is probably only of middling to low difficulty, and actually would be pretty relaxing to play.

A friend sent me Breath of Death and Cthulhu Saves the World. For a game that aims to be Retro, Breath of Death actually has a pretty clever combat system. You recover HP automatically after battle, so the whole thing turns into a game of MP management, where efficiently killing monsters ensures you regenerate MP more quickly. If you don't give a damn about that, you can also just sit by a save point and use the "Fight" command to clear out a dungeon (when you exhaust the battle counter, random battles end but you can still manually force fights to grind) so you can explore for treasure in peace. On Hard mode, the monsters put up a pretty decent fight, and most of the late bosses require some thought. The level-up trees offer some really clever choices, mixing in some alternate versions of attacks to make you think (which is better? A skill that stuns 1 enemy 100% of the time, or one that stuns all enemies only 60% of the time?)

Cthulhu has a messed up difficulty curve where on Hard mode the first dungeon is brutal and then it gets painfully easy really quick (the first dungeon is a beach with water elemental monsters, and your first spell is water elemental). I'll probably finish that up this week.

I picked up Rhythm Heaven Fever for the Wii on an impulse buy after seeing the trailer on Youtube. It's like Wario Ware, except instead of short instantaneous minigames it is short 1-2 minute long games set to little melodies. Replay value mostly consists of unlocking little toys and replaying the games to try to earn a coveted "Perfect" score when the window of opportunity opens up.

I'm still 33 achievements away from mastering Kid Icarus. I think this is the most original game Nintendo has created in nearly a decade, and I can't recommend it mightily enough.

I won't spoil anything besides the fact that the whole dungeon process doesn't change. However it is a fantastic game, please stick with it!

I'm currently playing:
TF2
Super MNC
Dungeon Defenders
Spelunky
