I've heard that the PS3 version of SotC is really hard because it doesn't have the framerate issues. Like the original was designed around the fact that the framerate was lower.

Been playing RAGE for some time, it's a very good looking game if your computer can handle it and the shooting is fun. Nice to have a current gen FPS where you can cycle through 8 different guns, with each gun having different kinds of ammo. Not to mention some items like grenades and boomerangs!

But then the current gen stuff kicks in and while the levels have some exploration and backtracking like the DOOM/Quake days, they're mostly linear and a have lot of invisible walls that are really annoying cause you never know where you can and cannot jump! Also, the world is not very large so there's a lot of padding.

It's like they wanted to make an old-school fps but gave up halfway Sad

You should check out Serious Sam 3. It's like they made an old-school FPS and didn't give up halfway.

People talk about Serious Sam and Hard Reset being old-school, but they're not really like DOOM and Quake.

Those games were defined by 2 important things IMO: lots of enemies to kill (which required some strategy since you had a lot of guns to choose from and your health didn't grew back) and level design that required and rewarded exploration. Serious Sam and Hard Reset do the first thing right but not the second one. They're pretty much a sequence of rooms full of enemies, they're still fun games on their own way though and I have yet to play SS3.

i hear you. I love the feel of the actual combat sequences. I wish they removed everything else.

Wow I couldnt agree with you more. I bought and played all those games to try to recapture the feel of oldschool doom. While I did enjoy them I still felt like something was missing. What you described is definitely a factor.

The older Serious Sam gams had awful level design. It was p much just huge open areas with tons of monsters. Theyre still fun mindless co-op games tho but definitely don't capture the spirit of Dum or Quack.

Serious Sam 3 is better but not really "old school" either, more like a modern FPS, except more challenging and with boss fights, i.e. what Duke Nukem Fornever should have been.

Yup. I must have twenty hours logged between both versions, and I'll be playing later today/night.
The PC version is vastly superior to the console's, if only for the 360 degree mouse aim. It's nice to see them working on another character, but I hope there are new arenas on the way too.

Yup, I hope so too. Even though it's a MOBA I feel like this is not the type of game that survives on 2 maps. I would like a rotation of at least 4-5 maps. I also think they could go further with their level design; more traps, mobs etc.

People who have played and like SotC, have you ever tried to do the time trials? Aside from the one Hard Mode trial where you have to do a sword-jump to make it within the time limit, I found them to be an un-intrusive extension of the game with some fun unlockable treasures.

Shadow of the Colossus is amazing. It was probably the best game I played on the PS2.

also... FUCK THE LAST COLOSSUS! I fell off him so many times!

save states are your best friend~

Just beat the game myself. My favorite Colossus was the sand worm one where you had to ride Agro and shoot into its eyes while running away... reminded me of that scene in Princess Mononoke.

Playing through ICO atm. Though not really that fun imo, I really love the hand-holding mechanic between Ico and Yorda.

I never finished SotC. I never really got used to some aspects of the controls, and overall I found it a bit boring. Oh my surprise when I found out everyone thinks it's Game of the Forever material.
