I probably shouldn't because I won't want to play the HD version when it comes out but I've started now and I just. can't. stop.

There are some visual novels in which the porn is essential to the plot (notably Saya no Uta, where you will find out near the end that sex with Saya was absolutely vital to her for spoilertastic reasons, as well as sex being used as a plot device on two different occasions).

But more importantly, do not lump Sengoku Rance in with the games where porn is just tacked on. Sex is a core element of Sengoku Rance (and the Rance series in general).

Sengoku Rance is a grand strategy game set in Sengoku-era Japan. The protagonist is Rance, who is basically a walking sex machine; he's a complete asshole and he only thinks about sex. He's on vacation in Japan to fuck all the beautiful ladies there, and he becomes buddies with Oda Nobunaga to the point where Nobunaga lets Rance act as the secret ruler of Oda, and Rance decides to conquer all of Japan in order to have sex with all the beautiful ladies.

The game is heavily story-based, with each country having its own characters, and many of your commanders having a unique look and personality and story events. You can spend an action to see such a story event, and in the case of female characters, this is occasionally a sex scene. Which story events you can get at any given moment depends on situational factors and the affection system, which is also the upgrade system, with commanders getting upgrades when their affection changes from 'normal' to 'trust' to 'love'. Sex scenes are also gained by conquering capitals of enemy countries and some other methods (clearing certain dungeons, etc).

Though the porn may seem like a well-done novelty at first, you'll soon notice that getting Rance enough sex is an integral strategic part of the gameplay. Whenever Rance has sex, his satisfaction goes up (the Sat. number between your national power and your money), and satisfaction is required to get game-wide upgrades (whereas affection gives unit-specific upgrades). These satisfaction upgrades are the most vital ones in the game, allowing you to gain huge bonuses, unique items or even vitally change the game, as is the case with the extra action fans. (At the start, you have two 'action fans', meaning you can take two actions per turn. Using the satisfaction system, you can raise this limit all the way up to five, making your turns 2.5 times as effective.) With the heavy story focus of the gameplay and Rance being Rance, you end up conquering Japan just to have Rance make quips about sex and pork all the girls.

Could you do it without porn? Sure you could, but in the same way you could do Europa Universalis on an entirely fictional map without anything resembling Europe - while the core gameplay could be replicated exactly, it would be missing its defining elements.

And as for whether it's good, let's just say this thread made me reinstall the game again and it's now 2 AM even though I have to get up at 7.

Finished the new Tomb Raider. It's a great action and shooting game but.. that's it. There are some tombs to explore and some puzzles to solve but there could be more.

The game had so much potential, it could be a great exploration/adventure game with some fun shooting parts, but instead it's the oposite.
And judging from the level design and how things are organized, it looks like the developers wanted that at first (there's a whole Metroid like progression system with items and a big unified map, also Metroid-like) but gave up to please the younger cover-based shooter fans.

Really? I found Sleeping Dogs to be a much better game overall... the shooting is well done, the fighting is better than most games out there and driving feels like you're playing a real racing game.

You can see that a lot of ideas were kept in the new game. Not sure if it would be better, I liked the game overall and the new Lara is a much better character then the old one.

My pick with the game is that there's this big map made of a bunch of small areas, just like Metroid/Castlevania. And you get these new items that let you access new areas, just like Metroid. So, everything is in place for a Metroid like game with backtracking and exploration, but instead you just follow a straight line while being guided by the game.

I had the same problem with Tomb Raider, and the Final Hours gives some neat info on what it was.

They had all this awesome potential for exploration, but instead it's just pushing forwards from one awful situation to the next. I kind of got bored and probably won't pick it back up for a while.

I was playing Silent Hill HD Collection today on PS3. Fuck you Konami.

So I found a hex hack for the PC version to run it in 1080, man I love PC gamers.

zelda II (finished the first 3 dungeons)

If this is your first time playing it, I'm envious. That's a real gem. Gets pretty brutal toward the end of the game, so lots of fun ahead for you!

Silent Hill 2! On PC, since the PS3 HD remake is actually awful. Thanks to a resolution hack it manages to look better on PC.

I am not playing it now.. I finished.  Its pretty damn short really for its narrative.  But I wanted to say that I played Little Inferno without any ending spoilers.  I knew from the buzz that its ending was 'an emotional' one, or at least something bigger than the actual gameplay from what I could tell.

I wanted to investigate the game without prejudice and expectation.  And I did.

I totally interpreted the ending differently.  I read a bunch about how 'meta' the game really is.  What its saying about casual games etc.. Basically its place and identity as a game or thing with an identity needing a space.  To me, not nonsense, but close..

..so when I finished.  Mind you it was St. Paddy's day morning, and I had a large glass of my Irish breakfast, I thought, "This isn't what I expected."

Without a whole lot of spoilers what I did experience, and I stress 'I', was the dying days of a person retaining their life by having others visit and recall memories.  Thats the warmth, and the cold part of it all.  Dead is freaking cold man.  And life has warmth.
