idk the previews kinda made it look like it might be a notch above all those other dumbed down linear shooters masquerading as nonlinear rpgs that have come out in recent years

Apparently it's not, as in it's on par with original deus ex, so if you didn't like the original you will not like this one. You were expected deus ex the good bethesda edition?

The original is not a linear shooter tho. It's actually pretty open in its design and it's not a faux RPG like Mass Effect. If DE3 is like the original I'll gladly buy it.

With a little help (and a bit of heckling) from my friends, I finally completed Ocarina of Time. It's strange, it feels like a part of my childhood is finally complete. I never owned an N64 as a kid, but my babysitter and her brother did, along with plenty of other consoles. They were majorly responsible for really getting me into videogames, and I fondly remember the nights that I tried, again and again, to tackle Ocarina of Time. I was pretty bad at games then, and I had only a small amount of time, so if I was lucky I might make it to the Goron City before I had to leave. I knew there was more to the game, much more- I just couldn't get to it. Years later when my grandmother found an N64 with that golden cartridge at a yard sale, I knew I had to take it on. But even that was a little while ago- I started it once more this summer, intending to finish it. Yep, I've had my problems with the title, and I do think it's aged a bit, but damnit if I didn't end up having a legitimately good time.

yeah, I just started a new character a couple weeks ago. I'm currently at 1-4 trying to (and still failing) to kick the False King's ass. I'm playing 100% solo this time, no pussying out and using co-op.

I kinda wish Dark Souls was an official sequel rather than a "spiritual" one so I could import my characters from Demon's Souls. Apparently they're changing the character progression system a bit though, so that's a nice tradeoff.

Playing through Morrowind again in anticipation for Skyrim. That and some TF2, League of Legends and Dwarf Fortress thrown in for good measure.

Theo's post pretty much sums up my experience this last year with the Sonic Mega Correction, since I'd finally gotten it for my PS2. And I need to hammer down and get back to Demon's Souls too, before they officially capsize the older server in favor of Dark Souls', in case that's what they plan to do. I'm only about 25% through it right now.

Of course, 3rd Strike Online Edition came along and glupglupglup where did the time go? (Okay, it's only been 2 nights now, but it's so effin' fun!)

You could still play offline if they shut the servers down. I'm actually playing offline quite a bit on my current run because it's almost impossible to do world tendency stuff online.

Once the server shuts down you will lose out on a pretty huge part of the game with the bloodstains and messages. Also you will never be able to get the friendship ring, which means the platinum trophy will be unobtainable.

Oh true didn't think of the friendship ring. It's still a great game offline though, even w/o the bloodstains and messages.

At some point I need to go back and beat the False King and finish the game. I'm just not feeling it now.

I just hope they don't take the "too effing hard!!" feedback too seriously, and make Dark Souls crippled for the sake of "accessibility." Although since it's well-polished but hard-as-nails reputation is what the brand is best known for, it's also possible they won't cripple it much. If anything else, I think they'll spoil the player with more lenient "rebalanced" stamina management.

 Evil But hopefully not!!

Yeah, you can't spam health items anymore for instance. I think it's highly unlikely that From is going to dumb down Dark Souls. Nothing in the previews and interviews I've seen indicates it.

BTW i don't think DS is that hard. It just requires you to understand and use the game mechanics to succeed. Gamers just aren't used to modern games with high production values requiring that of them. It's not a "masocore" game or anything (i.e. difficulty for its own sake). It needs the level of difficulty it has for its mechanics and atmosphere to work IMO.
