bought anno 2070 on steam while it was on sale. it's pretty much the same as every other anno game, except set IN THE FUTURE. its fun of course but kinda wish there were more mechanics that somehow reflect the new setting.

also fuck ubisoft and their terrible drm.

Argh I need to play more of Aeon Genesis' games.

I picked up Puzzler World 2 on Steam because I have a weakness for puzzle games. I'm really impressed and pleased with the variety, but man am I sick of sudoku.

Almost done with Saga Frontier. I just have to beat Red's scenario, and then whatever might lie beyond that (not knowing what will happen is half the fun!).

I just noticed last night that one major positive with the design is that starting over in each new scenario gives me the opportunity to learn and improve each time, leveling up more efficiently and taking advantage of skills and items I didn't understand in previous runs.

The lack of original content in some of the scenarios is painful. Asselus's scenario basically leaves you to wander aimlessly and do the generic sidequests from the other scenarios while leveling up. Dull. I'm also sad that apparently they never go into detail on the other character's scenarios, like showing how White Rose and Assellus managed to wind up in a harem in Emilia's scenario. I was looking forward to learning that.

The more diverse mechanics of Live a Live were a better use of the scenario RPG concept. At least Saga Frontier came across as a pretty decent, lengthy game for when it came out.

I actually don't use Saurus much -- it's pretty slow. Right now this is my main robot party:

I preordered Dragon's Dogma a while back and got it for like $20 off... it's interesting, but I feel like the medieval fantasy aspect actually takes out what I really like about jRPGs. The plot also kind of handwaves everything, like how you can have magical slaves who look and act exactly like people... At least in Soul Nomad, I could just imprison people to do my bidding. Also, it has this weird forced letterbox that makes the screen size smaller... damn slow consoles that can only do 720p.

Dragon's Dogma demo made a really good impression on me. It actually felt like a mix of Skyrim, Monster Hunter, Demon's Souls and SotC. I intend to get it once I stop playing the starving indie.

I also got Awesomenauts. It's really good, surprisingly so. Nice to see a moba game made accessible and still deep enough to make it interesting.

i bought the game today and am not sure what to think yet. i think it does a better job at the whole "open world action rpg" thing than kingdoms of amalur which got real boring real fast for me. the combat is fun and seems fairly deep.

the graphics are really ugly though. environments are super bland and there are blurry textures everywhere. what's up with that?

EDIT: i've been playing it for a few hours now and its starting to remind me of xenoblade quite a bit. the way the world, quests and item gathering are set up is very similar. also chatty party members lol.

My main gripe with Amalur was that it was insultingly easy. Why play around with builds and tactics, when you can kill anything anyway? DD looks much better in that regard. The graphics ain't too pretty, but I don't care much. They have some of that rough charm Demon's Souls has, and the character editor is surprisingly robust. You can create a short, fat, old lady and go hunt monster. That's pretty cool in my book.

In any case, write some more about the game once you get deeper into it. You seem to have a similar taste in games as I, so I'm curious of your opinion.
