DAY 252 - November 26, 2011 - Laid out the map as planned. I'm definitely gonna be adding in more secret areas and whatnot, but this is certainly a good starting point.
I can't believe I didn't do this sooner! It's definitely helped me clarify some of my thoughts and notes. My next step is to write out interesting quest/story ideas for each area (so they are all unique and no filler), with regard to the different gameplay and arrow types, and at the same time start blocking in the landscapes.

Woah, I just found out you're making this game with Game Maker. That will take a while before the whole game has loaded won't it? As far as I know there aren't really great big Game Maker games, so this could be one of the biggest Game Maker games yet. Anyway, good luck with further development.

I'm white and sit on a chair all day. So it probably is! Also the game's load time might not be too bad. Depends how many unique assets he has per level. Also, his sprites are fairly small so they'll be quick to load. And if he does external asset loading it could possibly be even shorter. In all honesty, mp3s are what seriously bloats load times. And no sane game dev will use mp3 if they can avoid it.

this is only true if you frontload all the assets (have them in the .exe itself) if you store the assets externally and load/unload them as you please, GM games actually start very quickly of course this enables people to manipulate the assets as they please, but i don't feel it to be that big an issue

I like how people are suggesting solutions to something that was never indicated as a problem.

If it were me. Id. like. Do it so that it's the first one, but your mouse is like a flame. So just a circle around the mouse is the second one. Like uhhhhh <opens le photoshop> this : Size of the bright part could be whatever. But this gives the basic idea. This might even be possible to do with your lighting system, no?
