Can you resist the retro appeal of Pixel Slaughter!? (hint: no, you can't)

Play it here (latest build v0.5)

It's a game about shooting, pixelly gibs and nostalgy (not exactly in that order). It requires Java and runs in your browser.
What do you think about it? Do you want more? Smiley

It's a decently fun timewaster, the blood effect you've concentrated on might appeal to people's inner maniacs Wink It tended to freeze up on me after a few seconds, with the game still running in the background which meant it was as good as a Game Over, but I'm more than prepared to believe that this is just because my laptop is inexorably shite.

If I were to suggest anything, it would be to make the graphics have a consistent block size (the bullets in the "ammo" counter stand out as being different).

Its allot of fun, well done. Might I suggest having a quick explanation of the games controls on the title screen for example...

Looking good so far. The only thing I would recommend is making the lifebar flat instead of having a gradient, making the bullets move faster, and having a clearer indication of ammo (like maybe a number value).

It's a nice "time-wasted-but-fun" shooting game. But there are two things that i would recommend:

  • To differentiate between a machine gun and a shotgun. Like the ammo, the "box" that the player takes, etc...
  • Make a lifebar more visible to the player (like been flashing when your health is low).

I made some important changes. There's a third weapon to unlock, but there's also a "skill move" system. Do certain things and get a reward. I'd like you to tell me if this enhances the gameplay.

Different weapons have different bullet speeds. Also, this ammo bar is my second take on the ammo indicator. The first one was just a number value and I found it hard to read during intense slaughter. Wink

That's the point - you never know what's inside the box.

It is flashing when your health is low...
