But it's not beret... ,__,

It's a woolly cap!

Yeah the mugshot still has it wrong, but it's supposed to just lump down, the only thing that keeps them up is the hair under it.

Then perhaps make it slightly rounder and push forward less, and add some wool-like texture to it? Those type of hats tend to hug the shape of the head more or less.

Uh...

how do you make texture with pixel art, I've never really understood it. Teach me pixel art masters?

And I'll mess around with the shape.

Don't need to emphasize ear bump, it create a visual noise.

I don't understand the presence of shoulder pad (ie not military), can we see a real cloth that represent the top of what the character is wearing?

Ah yeah...I'll remove it.

It's just regular winter coat with shoulder pads added. Why they're added, it's a story reason...

But I never intened it to look like millitary outfit... :7

Hat looks much nicer  Smiley

The reason people continue to mistake it for some sort of military outfit is because that's what it most closely resembles. No matter how many times you tell everyone it's a winter coat, no one will see it as that, because it doesn't resemble one. It has short sleeves, shoulder pads, what appears to be some sort of breast plate or vest, and is primarily green.

It's fine if you want to take artistic license, and have the "coat" this way. But if you want your audience to see it as a winter coat, you should give us visual cues that tell us that's what it is. Long sleeves. Thick material. Maybe some fur, maybe a heavy hood, maybe some big buttons?

Quick edit:

Something like this perhaps? Changes the character, yes, but it will convey what you keep telling everybody.

If you don't want to change the character, that's completely okay. But people will keep calling it a military outfit Wink

EDIT: Sorry, those first sprites are from the last time I edited her for you. Just continued off of there. You can of course apply the same principals to your original sprite Grin

Maybe if you change the color of the shoulder pad and give more clue about the coat so we know it's one and is not related to the shoulder pad? Also she have an offensive stance, it read military in almost every way conceivable.

I'll rethink the character a little then, but, just, wanna say;

Sleeveless winter coats/jackets exist, maybe not very popular though. And the blue's her short sleeved shirt. I'll try to make the shoulder pads fit something like that, or remove them all together...

I think a big problem is the green color as well.  It's a military-ish color, and with the pads/beret-looking hat (I know it's not a beret by now, of course), the boots, even the way the coat drapes over her thighs kind of like armor-padding might.  It all adds up to that look.

And I don't disagree with your aiming at that sort of sleeveless winter vest/coat thing at all.  I think the problem is that it just doesn't look like that right now.  As Jesse said, some big buttons would help.  Anything that might denote that it's fabric and not some kind of plate.  Including the fact that with thick fabrics/coats, breasts usually aren't prominent at all, whereas they're sort of clear on your sprite (which is also something that makes it look more like a plate or armor or something).

At the end of the day, it's sort of a landslide of things that are causing these misconceptions.  You don't necessarily have to uproot everything to fix that.  Just pick the right changes.

Most of these visual clues would not work on small pixeled sprite.
Right now I'm afraid the character need a shake up, don't marry idea

Let's see if just changing the palette helps...

Using palette "stolen" from Megaman sprite and Jesse's.

the whiter palette definitely does help, but the shoulder pads are INCREDIBLY pronouced in your sprites. think about how big they are in relation to other parts, 3 pixels tall means they are about a third of the character's head. That's rather big for shoulder pads on a winter coat.

What are the important part in the character?
We know the shoulder pad is scenario related, what about the other part? justify them please. Justify the original color too.

I like all three in the right column. Especially the middle Wink
