the whiter palette definitely does help, but the shoulder pads are INCREDIBLY pronouced in your sprites. think about how big they are in relation to other parts, 3 pixels tall means they are about a third of the character's head. That's rather big for shoulder pads on a winter coat.

I'll try making them smaller. The size's not important, just the fact that they're there.

What are the important part in the character?
We know the shoulder pad is scenario related, what about the other part? justify them please. Justify the original color too.

The shoulder pads and jacket - story/character backstory related.
The bag - gameplay related, "nerf" powerfull items by making her slowly take them out off it. And it just looks cool.
Color, um...no reason. She was blonde with cyan jacket at first, then brunette with green jacket and brown shorts/shirt, then, finally red haired, green jacket and blue shorts/shirt.

I like all three in the right column. Especially the middle Wink

Yeah I like it too, but I like the one to the left more,  it uses colors from your edit and the Megaman sprite, they fit nicely.

I tried to draw on paper what kind character she's supposed to be - and added somekind buttons to the jacket...beware my crappy drawings (maybe it help that they were taken with my phone camera).

Something like that I'm supposed to transfer into the sprite. Maybe they'll help, or makes you throw up, either's fine for me.

Edit:

Smaller shoulder pads.

why don't you try redrawing it from scratch? i feel like you've been doing sprite edits on the same base for like years

The current sprite is actually made from scratch, expect the ponytail is copy&pasted and the whole char has the same pose.

I guess I try making just passive standing pose next as someone said she has kinda offensive stance.

D'ont flex the arm and leg, it give her a tense pose >> aggressive. To look relax, she need to relax her body too.

Also S.Pad (tm) is important but is visually lost in the graphical munchkin that result in many blind "spot healing", just redo it from scratch and think about everything.

The character design right now is visually fractured in many element in a very bad way (no hierarchy at all).

Yeah I'm trying to doodle around for a simpler and more readable design.

On other news, finally finished a small helper program which allows me to set sprite clips, particle starting points and collision boxes based on the sprite sheet. Helps so much when you don't have to guess how to set them, just draw rectangles.

So, that's map editor and that done...now I just need to rewrite the engine and then it's purely graphic making. And gotta "steal" music and sound effects, I guess...

I'm keeping the latest version, else I'll be making changes forever. If someone thinks she's soldier, I don't care.

I started making castle walls tileset, very basic, mostly trying to find colors first.

Maybe too wip for any sensible feedback...

I like that one Smiley

Onward!

You're right, can't comment on the walls much yet. I'd just warn you of too much glare on the metal grates. If it's a castle it's likely to be old and grimy, and have very little reflectivity, if any.

This is also not quite how reflection of light works, but I won't get into that now. Make sure to use reference pictures and reference sprites. Never work without them - this is just ignorance or arrogance Wink

I think you are a good spriter, yet you need to tackle the basics again, for example in the hat she has a white red and then it goes to blue and then it has some green in it.. atleast in the last one, then you have the green in her pants too dull to look good, I have seen edits on the base, but you keep mentioning that you don't want it chibby, I really want to see an example in game to see what you are aiming in this game : ). So far it seems that they keep on giving comments and you just don't follow them.

I do.
Not just all of them, I usually pick the points that go along with my ideas and even if they don't, I still try it, if I didn't, everything would still look like this.

Anyway, my friend came me a idea that might help make the main character look more natural and better, gonna try it now, posting results after it's done. If it still doesn't work, I'm gonna just move on and keep the current one.

I give up.

My whole summer has been enourmous nightmare and as a last straw, my computer broke. All my files are gone, I had backups on external HD, but that broke down last week.

Thanks for everyone who took time to help me. I lost the last inches of my motivation now. I wanted to make this game, but someone out there wanted me to fail...

Sorry to hear it. I'd been lurking, and the whole progression looked kind of cool.  Sad

My computer is officially a zombie now.

It woke up from death!
Dunno what was wrong with it, booted to BIOS, but nothing after that.
Now I just need to copy the files somehow before it dies again...

I'm so glad that I don't have to give up after all, even though I need to regain the motivation somehow.

But seriosly, if I told ya everything that has happened to me, you'd prolly think that I'm lieing.

I try to show the updated sprite today or tomorrow.
