Wait, what?
I've had money riding on DNF coming out before Fez.

Instead I went on IRC as "rinkuhero" and tried to tell them that "phubans" got a job for Nintendo of Japan, but they quickly figured out that I wasn't you (Dragonmaw keeps IRC logs dating 3 years back)

Goddamn. I've been to this thread 20 times at least, but every time I see it in the "Unread Posts since last visit" list I get excited and think it's for real.

This might help tide you over in the meantime; it's not got Fez's exploratory aspect, but the dimension-meddling mechanic's there.

What's interesting is that none of the comments seem to mention Fez even though the game is quite obviously "inspired" by it.

Well, Fez is kind of a big hairy deal in the indie community, but culturally it's almost invisible; I think it's likely that a nontrivial proportion of the slacker kids and bored office workers killing time on Kongregate have never heard of it.

I wonder what everyone's gonna do if Fez flops after it's released? I bet people will feel pretty stupid for praising a game solely on visuals if its game design & mechanics leaves more to be desired

Yes, that's right, everyone is going to do that. Rogue will have nothing on Fez.

i think it's pretty difficult to make that type of mechanic work nicely. super paper mario's puzzles were mostly just "flip dimensions everywhere and hope you find something interesting." i think this is the problem fez will most likely have, if it has any major flaws. iirc, the programmer even said something to that effect? i seriously doubt it'll be a bad game, though.
