Omega Boost is actually pretty good for the nine minutes it takes to completely destroy its campaign.

Omega boost was great, similar to Macross games where you also can transform your jet into different forms, and fly around like crazy evading missiles. Have you seen Border Break?: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GiQKZTLq2jI

Ooh, Metal Warriors was great fun. At least, the two-player mode was. I've never actually tried it single-player.

Oh man, that reminds me - Armored Warriors, an old Capcom arcade game, is amazing. SoR-esque sidescrolling brawler, except you're giant goddamn robots instead of cops, and your enemies are mostly giant goddamn robots instead of thugs, and instead of knocking them over and stealing their flick-knives, you wreck them up and steal their body parts. Enormous fun, especially with additional players. A lot of the mechs featured in the game went on to appear in Capcom's subsequent versus fighting game, Cyberbots: Fullmetal Madness.

I recommend playing through the single player campaign. The levels are very well designed and pretty long. There's a lot of bits where you have to get out of your machine and hit switches. And there's a ton of variety from mission to mission with each having different goals. There's also the animations between the levels which were awesome for the time. It really feels like the explored every gameplay scenario they needed to in this game. It's very much like the assault suits games only with less focus on throwing enemies at you and more focus on level design. It get's pretty difficult too.

This made me download MAME for the first time and play Armored Warriors, at least the second European Version, which subsequently was fucking amazing. Along with that, I must say MAME is probably the most fun emulator ever. Go arcade games.

Yeah, Armored Warriors was amazing, especially in 3 player coop mode. The mecha designs were great. And Metal Warriors for the SNES was awesome too. I just loved stealing the enemy mecha in that one. Cybernator's more cartoonish brother in a way. Wait, has anyone mentioned Cybernator? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AhKXqEoEpy0There have been numerous games in that saga (its called Assault Suits Valken in Japan). The one for Sega Saturn looks yummy. I could never emulate it properly though. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KeCfsSc0T-AAnd how about Tech Romancer, a capcom 3d arcade fighting game pitching mecha against mecha? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q2-UpK0r2hYhttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nV9e3iglut4&feature=relatedFully emulated nowadays (well, either that or get an actual Dreamcast console). We played the hell out of this one with a friend. I would rank it as the second best 3d arcade fighting game from Capcom (after Rival Schools).

Aw come on, no mention of Steel Battalion yet? It is THE giant robo game. How can you go wrong with a controller that looks like this? (hint: it even has a "wash windows" button) In all seriousness I do love the crap out of this game. Each mission begins with the mech start-up sequence, involving hitting switches at the right time and watching your screen power up. Once up and moving, you really feel like a skyscraper sized robot. Every move you make is slow and deliberate, and each lumbering step feels like it could reduce cities to crumbles. You can use your little grabber arm to pick up tanks and crush them, or hold on to them and use them as a shield. So cool. There were a lot of neat ideas in the 2nd game (which was multiplayer only), such as being able to turn off your electrical systems (including life support) so that you go blank on radar. The downside is the screen fogs up and you'll suffocate if you keep the systems off too long. I highly recommend finding a copy of this to play somehow if you never have. Essential for mecha nerds.

Xenogears psx. My favourite RPG on the console. I can also assume the only reason why Living Legends hasn't been mentioned is because people either don't know about it, or they've forgotten. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HJow3NrrZBY

The problem is that Steel Battalion is incredibly rare; not a whole lot of copies were shipped, and I happen to know for a fact that at least 250 of those amazing controllers were destroyed last year. The forthcoming Kinect version has my hopes up, though.
