Or mecha, for the hardened lover of modern counter-culture.
Anyways, what are your favorite mecha(or giant robot)-themed video games? I'm not talking only simulations; fighting games, RPG's, and RTS's are all in on this one.

My personal?
I enjoy me some Virtual On, Custom Robo (haters gonna hate), and anything involving Armored Core.
I love the Armored Core series for that matter, despite it's many flaws. I've always found it to have the right balance of technical aspects with a gritty yet not unrealistic sci-fi style.

So how about you, gentlemen? Or women?
Or dunsparce?

Is Custom Robo hated? I've always wanted to play one.

I don't think I have played a lot of games with giant robots, which is a shame because there aren't a lot of things that are more badass than a giant robot.

I enjoyed the DS version of Custom Robo, though i never finished it.

Played Mechwarrior a bit, but could never really get into it.

Played Armoured Core when i was a youth, but don't really remember much about it!

I really enjoyed the Mechwarrior games.  I played them for the PC, it has been a while though.  I did play some mech game back on NES, but I couldn't beat the first level.

I recently finished Lost Planet 2, which has soured me on the whole idea of mechs. I cannot remember playing a good mech game to be honest.

I got Heavy Gear bundled with my first graphics accelerator card so that's always going to have a place in my heart. I miss the times when the PC had giant robot games out the arse but like space sims it's really died out, you have to look to consoles and arcades if you want big stompy action. Which is why Hawken is pretty strong on my radar.

Hawken has me extremely excited. It's like a modern, true reimagining of mech warrior.

Are there any mecha games with a similar scale vs city thing going as, say, Bokurano or Cannon God Exaxxion? The idea of fighting with robots large enough that accidentally crushing skyscrapers is routine appeals to me.

I have to agree that Lost Planet 2 was kind of a letdown, but the first game had some of the best mech action I've ever seen.

Dude, MechWarrior. MechWarrior 2 is possibly my favourite of the sim-y series, although I do have a soft spot for the multiplayer in MechAssault.

playing virtual-on in an arcade is an UNPARALLELED EXPERIENCE and i liked custom robo a lot (the final boss was absolute bullshit of the highest caliber though, as it couldn't be knocked down and therefore you had to completely rebuild your robot from the ground up if knocking down was at all part of your strategy)

i've never played a srw game but the animations are always <3

Oldies but goodies. Heavy Gear 2 is an excellent game, if you dont mind the stone age graphics.

But those are like 50 years old, I didn't like those types of games when I was younger... but now I do and there are none for PC :C (except in Japan and in consoles it seems :Cx2)
