Wait... you seriously expected a substantial amount of people here to have played an extremely rare Xbox game that requires a huge and expensive controller made specifically for it to play?

But yeah, Steel Battalion intrigues me. If I had any realistic possibility of playing it, I'd be all over that shit. I'm not entirely sold on the Kinect version tbh, controlling a mech via pantomime doesn't sound as fun to me. Besides I've heard some things about the Kinect itself being finicky to use, so...

What are the different type of mecha?

I know:
1. the mazinger type, humanoid, heroic hot blooded and not realistic
2. the gundam type, humanoid, realistic tragedy still ado powered, added for fun complex politics social issue and militaristic setting.
3. Macross type, gundam with transformation and itano circus (missile ballet), exist in mazinger type too (sentai robots)
4. evangelion type, pseudo philosphic, highly metaphoric and uber emo tragedy, ambiguity of the nature of the robot that reflect human struggle.

5. american type, tank with feet (mechwarrior), military oriented, kill and destroy.

what else?

Did anybody mention Robotic Alchemic Drive? You played a girl who controlled a giant robot from the outside, so you had to use your jetpack to fly around the city and get a good view of your 'bot and avoid wreckage.





If any of these games deserves a HD remake, it's this one.

what else?


Those aren't really 'types', though.

Super Robot Wars usually distinguishes between 'real' mecha (Gundam-type, more 'realistic' robots) and 'Super' robots (Mazinger and all of the rest). Everything else you've listed is more closely related to themes in the show than the mecha themselves.

THANK YOU for reminding me of this game!  One of my friends sat me down in front of his TV, shoved the controller into my hand, and said "go."  I hadn't heard of RAD and had no idea what was going on.  It took me forever to even try getting on the shoulder of one of the robots, and once I did it was such an amazing feeling.  Definitely need to revisit that game and do it justice.

Mechas are generally divided into "real robot" and "super robot", with Mazinger, Gurren-Lagann, Gundams from G Gundam etc being in the super robot category (and super robot shows are generally "lighthearted" when it comes to describing combat) and Full Metal Panic, the more realistic Gundams (like 08th MS team), etc being much more down-to-earth in design and capabilities (though they tend to have some unreal capabilities too to make them actually feasible in combat). Real robot content usually describes war and combat much more realistically.

I haven't actually played that much mecha games myself but I've always had a high level of interest in them. One game that I remember fondly though is Metal Fatigue. It's an RTS game where the game plays out on three layers (underground, ground level, high in the sky) and a big part of the game plays around custom mechs you can build with the parts you have available for you (legs, torso, two arms). You can also steal parts from destroyed enemies.
