I have been developing this game since last summer using game maker 8. Its a side scrolling platformer inspired by games like cave story and legend of zelda. It is my first game so im learning as i go but its looking pretty good. all graphics sounds and programming is done by me.

I do have a playable build but i don't want to release it to the public since its really short and still buggy. I just want general feedback about the graphics and gameplay (seen in video) again - this is my first ever game so be nice please.

about story and concept im still making up my mind as i go but i do have a basic idea which will eventually lead to the name
of the game.

screens:

gameplay video (game is still very far from done):
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i6en23D7n4o

I will soon add a bow as a weapon and later on more environments enemies bosses characters etc.
also you might have noticed that the left attack animation is bad that has to change.

thank you and please submit feedback

I think this looks very solid, considering that is still far from finished. Overall, the graphics and the gameplay look very nice.

A few small suggestions:
-The Mountain-part shown in the video(not the cave, the mountain, or temple or whatever it is) is very blocky. Use some round tiles in there as well.(round stone, half-crumbled stone, etc)
-I don't like how the stone hit the water in the cave, and how it fell down then.

For the rest... amazing Smiley

do you mean the mountain part in the background of the second screenshot? and about the rock thing the splash is buggy because it is not exactly where it hits the surface - ill fix that, and i will decrease the gravity when the rock is falling in the water. thanks =D

EDIT: I just realized which part you meant and that is just a test level it has no tiles thats just the way the object for block looks. it will be removed later or tiles will be added. thanks

The graphics is excellent, regarding the gameplay I think you should give more "strength" to your gameplay elements. For example, you can fight with enemies, but these fights are not so interesting (few enemies, few fight strategies, ...). However, excellent technical development so far, I hope that gameplay will reach the same level! Hand Thumbs Up LeftWell, hello there!

as i said in my first post I intend to add at least 15 more enemies and a boss for each level.  also i wish to include attacks like a charge or jump attacks. blocking for now just makes the player immune but i wish to make some sort of knockback on the enemies. there will also be a bow and enemy archers. thanks for your feedback Smiley

It's looks nice so far. Even i like the environment control that you can get in the game, like throwing stones and moving rocks. Will be more elements in the games to control?? You know, like puzzles in caves and castles...

Shackhal - well as you might have seen in the video there will be simple puzzles like throwing rocks at switches (switch sprite has to change) also pressure plates that need to be walked over or have a block put on them or putting down blocks to cross a water lake thing. as i said this is far from over but yes i do plan to have puzzles that involve rocks blocks and arrows as well
thanks for feedback Smiley

it doesn't seem natural that water only his height would kill him. It might make more sense to the user if you make the water in the cave deeper to imply you can't get out, or let him navigate shallow water.

The graphics are fantastic so far, I especially like your cave zombie

i know what you mean and water will be deeper so that it doesn't look stupid. maybe i will include wooden pushblocks that will float and he can cross over them. thanks Smiley
