Feedback:
This is my first platformer, as well as my first game that's a bit bigger in general. While I feel I got the mood and gameplay working nicely, given the game's size, I'm sure they may be some gameplay aspects I've overlooked or other ways of improving the experience overall. Thoughts on the weapons, boss, and level design are of keen interest to me, but I'm very open to any critiques or suggestions Wink

Very awesome game! I really liked the graphics and how everything fit together so nicely! A couple of notes:

-I didn't realize that there was a death timer the first time I played and when I spent most of my first run taking my time, trying to explore a little. Whenever I got killed from running out of time it discouraged me from taking my time and made me try to rush through everything. (I'm not saying that's a bad thing).

-I really enjoyed the opening cut scenes. Nice, small, funny little back story that was entertaining to watch.

-The level length and overall game length seems about perfect for what the game is.

-I thought that it was a little harsh to only fill the player's meters by a half when picking up a powerup (especially for health), yet taking a hit removes one full icon.

-The weird platforming stages in between the levels seemed kind of out of place. I wasn't really sure what was going on. I think they were bonus stages (maybe that should be made more clear.) At first I thought it was the second level and I was disappointed because it was far more dull in gameplay and presentation than the first level. I wasn't able to complete any of them so i'm not sure what the point of them are.

-A couple of times a powerup got stuck in the middle of a platform, which was kind of frustrating.

Again, I really thought this game was fantastic! I'm looking forward to trying it again to make it through the whole thing this time. I really liked playing a lot of your other games you posted here too. It seems like you are creating a lot of awesome stuff! Keep up the good work!  Wizard Hand Thumbs Up Right

I'll do an update to address the lack of a warning about the time, and I'll see what can be done about the powerups getting stuck Tongue Labeling the bonus stages should be easy enough Smiley Glad you liked it overall though Wink

Thanks for playing!

I find it a little too hard to start. the time is really not obvious and I believe much too short. I don't think the player should be under such pressure in the first level! there is no way that anyone will stand a chance the first time. I didn't like that the items you get seemed to be randomly distributed, sometimes I found a lot, sometimes nothing. the hearts only replenisch half a heart, that also was not what I expected (or would have needed!). reached that bubble-toaster a few times, but never with enough time. gave up.

I agree that the time on the first level is too short. In fact, to me, the first level was the only level that time seemed to matter at all. The other levels I was able to pretty much ignore the timer, since I had so much.

I still have not been able to beat the boss. I survived for what felt like a long time and shot him a whole bunch, but he never ceased to live.

Uploaded a new version with these changes...

1) Heart powerups now recover a full heart of health
2) Powerups in walls simply don't exist anymore
3) Added some powerups before the boss fight, which makes it easier to beat him Wink
4) Replaced "Ready" with "Bonus" in the bonus areas, just to get the point across Wink
5) The player now has 200 seconds from the beginning.

[EDIT]
With these new improvements, Mecha Spider Island is now a weekend download on jayisgames (and a rather glowing review to boot!). I don't think they would of enjoyed it as much if these changes weren't in place Smiley

Thanks for all the help and input guys!
