find the red door, magic puff particles from harry potter game, find the next red door, curse. great shaders, tons of suda hype.
:PI appreciate the talent that went into this, but EA is buying more hype than its worth IMO

I really want this game and will probably sell some other games to get it. It looks like a great summer game.

Killer7 is genuinely good as well. Suda has said himself that he isn't good at designing mechanics, but Mikami is one of the very best when it comes to that stuff. A lot of people assume K7 is "style over substance" because the gameplay is weird and hard to get used to, especially if you have a problem with the notion of "on rails" movement, but it's actually a really well-designed game. It follows its own twisted logic.

On rails (or corridor or linear) is not bad by itself, nobody ever looked down on the first starfox game, but most on rails game are bland and repetitive and give the mechanics bad reps. I just drop that so nobody say killer 7 is bad because on rail.

i think with k7 it was mostly psychological. you wouldn't expect a game like k7 (adventure/shooter) to have the movement it does and it forces to give up the illusion of "freedom" that other corridor based games give you. the game seemed to get a lot of flak from reviewers and gamers at the time mainly for not doing things the standard, expected way.

Just about corridor game, i feel the urge to say that their main problem is that they control just like "freedom game" but instead block you whenever there is a branching path, that actually resume my first contact with mass effect 2, any slight deviation end up into a dead end (possibly with a small cinematic script that just cut the path for you right before your eyes) it create frustration as I would like the game be even more on rails to save me pointless movement, actually if I were to make those gaame, i would put even more "assist" and be sure the mess of freedom navigation don't bug with the gameplay (which allow me to deepen it and make it even more "cinematic"), it's all about focus.
Ironically, nintendo totally succeed the jump to Free roaming 3D and yet is going back to more focus game (mario 3DS, mario galaxy, etc...) and nobody complain (nothing is lost or sacrifice to that).
Tangentially I just finish mario galaxy and I can safely say I found the game bad, none for the reason mention above.
/useless plug
edit: also wtf mass effect 2 with useless drop, ammo seriously? they add nothing except confuse the hell out of you due to stupid narrow FOV and confuse control.

Killer7 already does almost exactly what you mentioned (removing all unnecessary movement), but it's a bit different from "cinematic" action games because it has nonlinear level layouts. So it's more like a branching path maze game.

Just began to play this game. It's fun, but feels more like No More Heroes than Killer7, and seems to be a bit stretched, with quite a bit of repetition. In my opinion, Killer7 was a much better game, probably due to its plot and gameplay. Indeed, I had thought that its movement style was quite refreshing and that the mechanics were quite unique and successfully implemented, but this may just as well be nostalgia. Strangely, I remember it getting much better scores than the Metacritic page shows (at 90's range, which was why I had bought it). The criticism seems to be a bit forced as well: Some describe the game as difficult, and others as boring. I remember it being a bit difficult, but certainly not boring.
Also, one should not expect genuine nonlinearity from a Bioware game like Mass Effect. Every single game of them since early 2000's had the same plot, the same characters and the same choice style (choose between the great paragon, the neutral comedian or the Hollywood villain). At least Killer7 didn't need to hide its linearity. The best free roaming RPG I've played in recent history is The Witcher 2; it was miles ahead of the rest of the mainstream games released in the last 5 years.

Just got Shadows of the Damned. Currently still in Act 2, but it's been a lot of fun so far. Really loving the art direction, world design and music. Playing on the hardest difficulty but the game still kind of easy so far. Getting more of Mikami vibe than a Suda vibe from it. In addition to RE4 there seem to be a lot of nods to God Hand, both in terms of gameplay (dodging, finishers) as well as other stuff (symbols and heads on doors, floating strawberries). I was surprised how how much Garcia's Latino-ness is played up. He kinda reminds me of elvis from the aforementioned god hand lol. I expected Johnson to be obnoxious but fortunately he's pretty likeable and funny.

I don't understand people getting their panties in a bunch over the dick jokes. A wise man once said that eroticism is already inherent in macho action movie violence. DMD is just honest about it. Also it's actually pretty far from conventional toilet humor. It's sort of a mix between douchebag jokes and psychedelic faux-mysticism, like if the Butthole Surfers designed a vidgame or sth. The game is also a real head trip from start to finish. Anyway, "Legion Hunter" difficulty is actually a decent challenge. It's not as hardcore as something like God Hand, but it still requires you to use the mechanics cleverly. Pointing your gun in the general direction of an enemy and holding down the shot button until it dies won't be enough. The only real problem I have with it is length. Imo the main point of making a game short is to avoid repetition and giving the player a constant stream of new stuff. Considering how much content DMD recycles (particularly in the miniboss department), the length simply isn't justified.

I never played Killer 7 but No More Heroes and Resident Evil 4 are two of my favourite games ever. I'm considering picking this up tomorrow but I don't know. Can anyone get me off the fence?

I'm on the fence on whether I want to get this or not (probably not going to as I've already spent too much money the last 2 weeks), but this single miniparagraph is pretty much exactly what I needed to hear to put me on the "I want to buy this" side.

Borrowed it from a friend yesterday, played it through to completion between yesterday afternoon/evening and this afternoon. Overall was pretty fun, considering I'm not a huge 3rd Person Shooter fan. The penis references are common, but not overly frequent (unless you count the health bar, especially after you've upgraded it a few times), but I wasn't too bothered by them. There was some variety in the regular enemies, and the main bosses were pretty fun and varied. One of the minibosses appeared 3 (or 4) times, but the circumstances of the battles were varied enough. Only a two or three sequences were frustrating (instant-death on contact with an enemy usually turns out like that).
Overall I found it enjoyable and very atmospheric. If you're a 3rd person shooter regular, Demon Hunter difficulty might be slightly on the easy side for you.
