The "turret" section in act 4-1 is frustrating me to no end.

Garcia repeating the same dick joke every 3 seconds doesn't help either, especially not after 5 failed attempts.

I like the rest of the game too much to give up, but damn.

Are there any other instant death segments beyond this one? please say no

I beat this game day 1 and loved it from start to finish. The character interaction between Garcia and Johnson is really good, especially since their personalities are completely different.

I personally feel that the Unreal Engine doesn't really suit this game very well, though.

No one apart from Epic themselves uses the Unreal Engine well. This is a scientifically proven fact. The texture popping is pretty bad in DMD, especially when restarting after death. There are also occasional slowdowns. Compare that to Vanquish which uses a custom engine. It's a day-and-night difference.

Also as previously the Big Boner level is really, really, really lame. Still an amazing though, but not the best work of either designer involved.

Glad to hear the trailer's humour isn't really representative of the whole game, it turned me off a lot. Will definitely check this out; love NMH and Killer 7. How would this compare to those in everyone's opinion?

Because I'm not usually a fan of this kind of games I haven't played it, but I really find it silly how people are saying the protagonist being Mexican automatically makes this worth playing. The 'theme' of the game appeals to me as much as 'Memoirs of a Geisha' appeals to Japan, probably for the same reasons.

And apparently at some point García says "¡Cabróns!". For some reason that's not as funny as Engrish.

There's plenty of Spanish swear words, especially if you use the brutal kills a lot (stun an enemy, get close, press Square). 'Cabrons' is in there, as is 'Chupa mi verga', and I think a couple others. I actually found it kind of amusing.

The protagonist being Mexican can be seen as a big deal in that he's a latino (technically a cultural minority in the US, whatever) rather than a white dude. Of course, he's Mexican as seen through the eyes of a Japanese game developer, localised into English. The point being, I don't think it's supposed to be a real representation of a Mexican person, rather than the perception of what 'being Mexican' is to someone from outside the culture.

I mean, if we're going to get all nitpicky, 'Garcia' is a surname, you're very unlikely to meet someone who's first name is Garcia in real life. Also, Hotspur isn't a Mexican name (Suda probably got it from the UK Football team Tottenham Hotspurs, or at least that's the first thing that comes to mind every time I read or hear the name).

In any case, I like that the protagonist is closer to someone from 'El Mariachi' than yet another buzz-cut white space-marine type.

I agree with Destral.

I don't think the game is meant to represent Mexican culture at all. Garcia is very similar to Travis Touchdown from No More Heroes in personality, the only differences being that he has an accent, swears in Spanish and is genuinely in love with his girlfriend instead of just trying to get laid.

Precisely because I agree with you guys (that he's not supposed to be an accurate representation of Mexican culture), I said it was silly when people say this game is worth playing because the protagonist is Mexican.

And "cabróns", I just found it weird because the actual word is "cabrones". Now that I think about it, it would probably have made me chuckle because of that.

Yeah, I noticed the cabrons thing too but I thought it was unintentional.  Wink

Game was good, but something felt off about the aiming for some reason and while every weapon had a role to play, the further you got in the more they overlapped for general demon slaying (except the dentist that just wrecks everything) I think the weapon selection was a big misstep as was the upgrade system. I just wanted it to do more with the whole light/dark relationship than all these gimmick sections like the turret. The final bosses were also a huge disappointment.

I think my favorite part of it was how well the tutorial/introduction/transition to the title screen was handled. although having to watch the game tell me this is a Suda51 product every time I try to skip it is a pain. It's good and I'd like to see what can come out of a sequel, but it's far to short. Very over hyped.

Voice acting is great mind and some of the jokes actually made me chuckle.
