i think the fountainhead was pretty good, very 'indie', it's just that her writings after that started to get too systematic and rationalistic and unfalsifiable rather than scientific/empiric (but that's a problem with a lot of philosophy); toohey is a good villains in terms of his motivation and methods, at one point he sees his niece falling in love with his co-worker and realizes that it'd be good for both of them to get together, so he makes sure he prevents that from happening and encourages him to marry someone he'll hate being with so that he can rise in the ranks

What inspires you?

a lot of things do, right now I'll answer that music does, a lot of times dark ambient / drone stuff, it really helps to build the mood and atmosphere in my head.   Usually if I start getting ideas or visions for things related to what I'm listening to, I'll keep a note of the track and thoughts for later use!

Logic I can get behind  Wink
Cosmic Love by Florence+The Machine at the moment. It's just so big and bombastic you wanna try and develop something as big as it is.

well, Kammarheit is one of my favorites, he has a side project called Cities Last Broadcast which is also good.  Most recently I was listening to Tho-So-Aa's album called 'Minus' which was providing some inspiration and mood for Memory Of A Broken Dimension.

Inade is another really good one, it isn't quite as lulling and serene as Kammarheit, has more rhythm and really strange sounds, I recommend the album 'The Crackling Of The Anonymous' or 'Samahdai State' but really they're all superb.

There's a lot of good stuff out there.. and a lot of mediocre, so some of it can get kinda cliche or get old fast for me, but anything off of Cyclic Law records or Loki Foundation is guaranteed to be excellent IMO.

Then there is the "other side" of drone which is more like Tim Hecker or Aidan Baker / Nadja, kind of the guitar based stuff noisy feedback stuff, I recommend 'An Imaginary Country', its a beautiful album.

Bad Sector (mostly space-related recordings), Olhon (the album 'sinkhole'), and Lull are other artists names I keep coming back to as well..

I am inspired mostly by comedy. You need to be willing to do ANYTHING to entertain the audience in comedy, even if you have to sacrifice a certain amount of dignity. The same should apply to games.

I am also inspired by cartoons (being able to be so expressive) and philosophy.

i am finding myself continually inspired by various psychology topics. one of my favorites, at least wrt games is the ideas surrounding the concept of Flow.

reading Csikszenmihalyi, Schell (both the book and the cards), occasionally reading random bits of various other books, too.

that + scanning through relevant API/technology docs seems to generally equate to a production of game ideas
