First, welcome to the forums!
I'm guessing this is your first game. It's made in Game Maker 6 (so
it won't run on Vista or Windows 7 unless it's run through the
freely available converter first). I recommend you try Game Maker 7, or even Game Maker 8, which don't have that problem. Yes, I know you spent 20 dollars on the Pro version of Game maker 6, but you're not using any of the features that aren't in the free trial.
The backgrounds are from the built-in resources, the walls are solid blocks of colour, the spikes are red triangles. The main character looks pretty cool, though there's an odd transparency thing going on (seriously, stop using GM6). Still, at least you have some basic art skills, you're just not using them for anything except the player character.
The gameplay is nothing really new. You run, jump over pits, and try not to hit any spikes. I've seen it too many times before. It's no different from the other dozen platformers submitted to YoYo Games every day.
Still, I would never expect anyone's first game to be the next Super Mario. There's a lot you still have to learn, but if I had to say one thing to you for your next game, it would be this:
Make something that stands out. There must be something about your game that makes me want to play it. It could be a thought-provoking story, a new kind of puzzle, or just a lot of beautiful explosions. Platformia doesn't have fun challenges, it doesn't have new things to discover, and it doesn't have any mechanics that I haven't seen before.
Also, it's impossible to leave the help screen.
