so this just went up on steam and it's some pretty heinous shit uh, what? using the likeness of two entirely unrelated successful and renowned living developers as characters in their marketing? They are the main characters of the game... BTM is inspired by Minecraft and many other games oh, i see. so the plot of the game is 'TWO SUCCESSFUL, FAMOUS, WEALTHY GAME DEVELOPERS MADE THIS GAME!' that's a cool plot they've got there.

The blocks matter but the game doesn't. How ironic.

Bought it and the core mechanics are interesting, it's a weird mix of platforming, Minecraft and Tetris. Found it a little boring though.
The plot is actually that those two successful developers were working on the robot that you control during the game and you have to save them. But yep, those banners are shameless and they give the idea that notch and Pajitnov worked on the game. I only saw those images after playing it.

Oh, so Alexey is Alexey Pajitnov, creator of Tetris? This picture looks nothing like him. He looks like a generic 20something nerd with a goatee in it, when he's in fact in his mid 50s and has a full beard. Weird.

More like some homage to every block game (reference to mario and boulder dash too, they got boulder dash permission too).
Also the spiritual successor of Tuper Tario Tros who mixed mario and tetris by the same guy

So wait, Notch and Pajitnov were not actually involved in the development of this at all?

Actually no they weren't.

Reminds me of the "Mirrors, a game by Edge" marketing business.

just because you are so entrenched in wikipedian knowledge of videogames doesn't mean most people are. it doesn't matter if they're doing it with a wink and a nod, making the direct association in their sales material is gross. appropriating characters and style from other games is one thing; implying connection to other developers in hopes of piggybacking for profit is another.
