So wait, Notch and Pajitnov were not actually involved in the development of this at all?
7 It's a way to frame their gameplay, you can line up block to clean them from screen, you can dig block and place them, there many kind of block with different property. Also they did the game because they need money because they were threaten to be homeless, especially when everything start to fall apart in their appart: Before that they were working on a seasons after fall their original IP: http://vimeo.com/15848962 trailer they made for fun: and MORE on their blogs http://www.swingswingsubmarine.com/

It's a way to frame their gameplay no, it's a shameless shill for sales. it's unfortunate if they're having hard times, but their life-story is completely irrelevant to this discussion.

It's a way to frame their gameplay no, it's a shameless shill for sales. it's unfortunate if they're having hard times, but their life-story is completely irrelevant to this discussion. I say so because I actually follow the dev and talk to them, I had seen the inception of the idea and it didn't seem to be marketing, It's born out of a joke like their other small game (tuper tario tros and greek and wicked), of course they were playing minecraft, made a connection with their previous game who was already born of a joke (mario and tetris) and then thought about how the great games they like was made out of block, then they decide to pay homage to them. But you are free to believe otherwise edit: More from their blog http://www.swingswingsubmarine.com/2011/02/22/announcing-blocks-that-matter/Many games are made of blocks, games we’ve all played like Super Mario Bros. and Tetris. These games have so much in common that we’ve even managed to create another game in which you can play SMB and Tetris at the very same time. According to the feedbacks players sent us, the experience was pretty fun, but something was missing. A player review of Tuper Tario Tros. on Newgrounds.comA lot of other games share the same “block DNA” and we, as sorcerer’s apprentices, can’t help thinking about more fusion of game concepts. And we did it again (oups!), but in our own way, with our own series. Let me present you our new impossible mash-up : Blocks That Matter ! Or as people who has already playtested the game calls it: BTM. Where B stands for Boulder Dash, T for Tetris and M for Minecraft. Three games, retro and modern, made of blocks that matter. Knowing that, maybe you already have a good idea of what you’ll be able to do in this game. Or maybe not, cause even if we love game references we are honest people and we will never copy/paste any game. Our intention is to create a unique game experience mixing game elements and mechanics, our own game made of blocks.

I'm not saying it's okay or it's not okay, i'm giving context and letting you draw conclusion When did I say It was good or bad? I didn't say no or yes to any replay, I just augment them with observation!

I think the idea of making references to every block game is cute. However, that could be misconstrued as misleading marketing.
I don't think it was MEANT to be, though.

I don't think a mashup of mechanics like this is a ripoff ... it looks like it goes 'far enough' from the source material that it's a new and interesting thing. The only issue is the potentially-misleading marketing using other developers. And honestly it's hard for me to see that as a real intentional marketing trick, in part because I don't think that many people would even get the reference / be aware of developer identities enough to buy the game on that basis.

How many people know what Markus Persson looks like? Or even his name? I didn't know who "Alexey" was.

I think it's abit stupid. It reminds me a bit of the meat boy stuff. All you're left with at the end is games with ugly cubes for graphics
