Thanks - my eye is mucho better now thank goodness! (for a week it couldn't focus and was super light sensitive)

Art progress has been slow as a result, but we now have audio volume falloff coded into the game (thanks to Gabor!) - which we should be able to show off in March when I can make a proper trailer.

Anyone here watch Manoto tv?
Myself and @theelectriccafe (who is making the audio) went down to their London studios earlier this week to be interviewed on their `The Tech show`, talking about Aquakitty and games development.

The episode airs tonight at 21.30!
Hopefully we don't say anything too silly, its hard doing camera interviews as your brain turns to mush Tongue
(eg - at one point I think I said Origin was by Activision, not EA - DOH)

It looks nice, but the actual level just looks like a random clusterfuck of vaguely fish shaped enemies mindlessly floating around for you to shoot.  The enemy bullets (what little were there) were really small and I could hardly notice them.  It needs much better structured levels with timed waves of enemies that approach you and actually hold some sort of threat.  I hope the final game plays as good as it looks, at the moment it doesn't seem to be the case.

As for the music, it sounds like title screen music.  I hope that isn't planned for use in-game.

Yeah, I agree that it does look like a big mess of enemies at the moment, rather than the discreet, somewhat isolated waves you'd expect in a Defender-style game (now *there's* a genre I wanna' make a game in some time). Still looks fun to me, though. Smiley

Me, David Williamson and Mark Foster do an Indie Games podcast. Give it a listen. And then I'll send you an apology.

Hey Udderdude - you are correct! The enemies do indeed come in timed waves.

That video from Aug 2011 shows midway through a hard prototypelevel (comes later in the game) where several waves have already been spawned, so yes I agree it does come across like you are seeing everything at once in the clip.

Sorry if it seems misleading!

Earlier levels in the game are more simplified, and progressively introduce newer enemies as you go (there is a campaign map with various branching routes).

Yes the bullets do look small in the video, but are nice and clear in the game honest Smiley
The game runs at a resolution of 1280x720, which is higher than a normal Youtube window (640x360?).

I can see the bullets in the screenshot you posted now, it could probably still be a bit bigger and have a white glow instead of a dark red one.

Hope to see some better gameplay footage soon.

This game makes me wish I had an xbox...I don't think I've seen anything as visually charming as this in a LONG time. It reminds me in some ways of Mega Man X2 (colourful and awesome graphics) and Xexyz (thematic animal enemies). How can I not follow this one?!:) Can't wait to see more!

@ScaryPotato, the game will come out on pc sometime after the xbox! Not heard of Xexyz, will check it out, thanks!

@zede05, yep it should be on youtube at somepoint I think. Neither of us have done any sort of on camera interview so I hope we come across ok :/

@JigorAndy, thanks! the newer music thats being worked on is even better IMHO, will update this devlog when its at a state for people to hear.

They put the episode online now - it seems a bit like the `Gadget Show` that we get in the UK, but in Persian of course (so aimed at a mainstream sort of audience, ie not techy).

All good fun! But back to getting the game finished...

Congrats on the interview! It's nice to see exposure like that when you work so hard on a project.

One thing I hadn't noticed before was the milk containers and the sliding band that goes up and down. I'm assuming that later on it'll only move to the level of milk collected, because in the video it seems pretty Freudian! Durr...?
