What the problem is?

Hi!

My new game with ReconditeArcher was released on Bubblebox the other day. It's my first shot at doing pixel art; I went for the Atari 2600 kind of era. Please check it out here: http://www.bubblebox.com/play/action/20130207.htm and let us know what you think!

It got picked as IndieGames.com browser pick too which we're rather chuffed about Smiley

On a side note, any feedback on my new website design (http://www.FlashChaz.com) would be appreciated. I've gone for a more compact and personal portfolio than it was before.

Thanks

hey Smiley I thought it was well made and fun, but I think you could beef it up a little!

for a title like UFOWNED, i figured there would be a bit more extreme carnage :D

I think the bonus tasks are cool, but I wasn't so fussed about the collecting one. For one thing, firing your tractor beam first requires you to fire off a laser shot, so sometimes I shot the guy I wanted to pick up. Second, I'd much rather have an independence day laser of doom than a tractor beam :D.

The biggest thing for me though which made me feel like the game is less exciting than it could be, is the lack of explosions. imo it really needs some things which go BOOM, rather than flash and dissapear.. then it earns its title Smiley

I like it for the most part.  I find it a little difficult to hit a specific target because of the two dimensional nature of everything and that there aren't fixed layers to switch between (think Rescue the Beagles.)  Not really a complaint, I just have a bit of a hard time with it.

Thanks for the feedback guys.

In response to your post Rich, you don't have to shoot a laser first; you can use the middle mouse button or space bar Well, hello there!

And your laser gets more powerful the more play, so eventually you get to destroy things with just one shot!

Hi there, thought I'd weigh in on this one.  I really liked it, definitely a fun game.  Particularly enjoyed the music. Agree with what was said about the tractor beam; I saw that you could use buttons to avoid having to click once to get the beam going (and risk killing your intended abductee).  However I didn't check the controls because I saw there was an option to use the mouse - by the time I realized it was was a problem the game had started and I couldn't check the what the controls were.

Also, call me dumb but I thought it might have been a one-screen-per-level type of game when it first loaded up. I didn't realize you could scroll to the sides till I accidentally moved my mouse far enough.  Once I had cleared everything in the screen you start on I was left doing nothing thinking "what now", till I discovered there was more.  Perhaps some prompting arrows?

Oh, we did make prompting arrows but we didn't put them in because we couldn't really find a good time to use them. We just thought people would discover they could scroll almost right away. Thanks for the feedback though, I'll bare it in mind if we update or something.

Love the music, my only nitpick with this is the lack of an explosive weapon (or maybe I just haven't played long enough?)

Great arcade game! Enjoyed the graphics and music, and the gameplay was pretty solid. (The bonus-point hunter/gatherer things were a nice touch.)

I didn't like the interface, though - it struck me as overwhelming with all the little information boxes and such, especially in the menu. Also, I noticed that when you double-tapped the C key it produced a beam...is that supposed to happen?

Overall, though, it was a really fun game.  Wink

@jotapeh Thank you for the feedback, Morgan is a great music guy to work with. With regards to explosive weapons, short of the epic weapons you can unlock there's not really anything 'explosive' as such. But we'll note that for a possible sequel, thanks Smiley

@Spydog Thanks! Really glad to hear you enjoyed it and I understand about the interface. I actually didn't design it, it kind of came back to me from the programmer's idea and we added to it etc., so it really was a collaborative effort. Alot of the time programmers that I work with tend to pick up discretional design duty and add things I hadn't really considered before, but I'm trying to be more stricter with some other games I'm working on regarding HUD and feedback design.

@dense The game was actually originally called UFPWNED but we changed due to sponsor request...glad you enjoyed the game though Smiley
