It not a pure voxel approach, have you thought about using 45 degree angle 'sandwich' style sloping blocks? I.e. Marble madness, etc.. It should only take a simple check to see if a block should be a cube or a diagonal shape. That might look pretty cool and make it look different than games like MineCraft.

I have just seen the new video. Awesome new mob! I think it would be sweet if when the troll landed from a jump, it also caused small amount of damage seeing as it is so large. Large enemies are something i was hoping for with Minecraft, but they were never delivered. Great work!

@bkane Maybe I will change my mind when it's finished. @happymonster That's an interesting Idea. I will test it! @Nugsy, Christian Knudsen Yeah large enemies are cool, I plan to add more of those bosses and link each one to a quest. I will also add damage when the troll lands, just couldn't make it for the video. Here is the video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z2LO1n2F25MAnd a screenshot:

is first person still an option? I love the way the characters look but the camera seems like it can be a bit awkward at times from the videos, especially in hectic combat.

I really like this. I've been dreaming of a game like this since first reading about voxels in one of LaMothe's books way back in the 90s. The scream sounds are a bit groany to me. I would tighten those up or use some other sound effect for the hits.. although, thinking on this for a bit, putting on my art critic hat for a minute, I realized there was something a little deeper to my reaction - the game is intentionally blocky, creating an "8-bit" look, and so the digitized voice in general seems a bit out of place. Have you tried more synthy-type sound effects, like you might hear in the original LoZ? You say you only started this a month ago? That's some pretty impressive progress so far. A game like this must be pretty epic of an undertaking, so :respect:

@Xion Yes you can still use first person view. I will also try to prevent the camera from zooming in every time the player is behind something. @TomHunt You're right about the sounds, I especially like your idea of LoZ-like effects, they would really fit better - I will try that. Thanks for the comments.

Wow! I've been looking at all the progress made and this looks fantastic. At first I thought it was going to turn out to be a Minecraft clone, but how it is now, it's definitely not one. I love the RPG style that you're taking with this. By the way, are objects like trees destructible? I'm sorry if I overlooked a video or image demonstrating this.

Thank you! The trees are not destructible yet, but they will be. I'll also add bushes and things like that which you can chop with one stroke.

I think everything looks great so far! Do you have any plans on maybe making the worlds a bit more populated than, say, Minecraft? I think having some pre-existing towns/kingdoms/settlements/etc would really set it apart from the competition. I realize populating a world with that stuff isn't the easiest thing by far, but I do think it would help.

I want to try to generate NPC villages dynamically or semi-dynamically using pre-built houses etc. But I haven't tried that yet - I hope it works. The NPCs should have quests or items or just some wise things to say.

I feel especially silly after I combed the thread to doublecheck it hadn't already been addressed and apparently missed that entirely. I want to try to generate NPC villages dynamically or semi-dynamically using pre-built houses etc. But I haven't tried that yet - I hope it works. The NPCs should have quests or items or just some wise things to say. Awesome! Maybe with little generated roads between settlements? Oh oh and recently ruined cottages with goblin squatte-*Shot* There needs to be a Shot emote, btw. Anyway, I can't wait to get my mitts on this.
