Sounds like a great game if you're looking for a super long KOTOR with some multiplayer elements, but it will probably be a little disappointing for MMO players. I read a couple previews, and it seems like they haven't bothered at all with keeping the universe consistent from player to player, which is good if you're more interested in a cool story, but not so much if you want something like EVE online or whatever.
Personally I doubt I'll be playing it since I can't stand subscription fees.

I'm mostly disappointed that the hype train left the station ages ago while the game was still early in development. I was pretty excited for this maybe a year ago, but my interest has waned since then.

I'll definitely be interested to see how it turns out after it launches, but I'm not sure I'll play it. Choosing to pick up an MMO with a monthly subscription is a pretty big investment of time and money, and I'm past the point where my excitement was sufficient to draw me in. I'm sort of out of MMO mode for a while.

I'm especially curious if this will turn out to be the game that gets it - the game that recognizes that to compete with World of Warcraft you need a mix of variety and accessibility. A lot of recent MMOs seem to have missed that, introducing cash-shop material, heavy grind or lackluster story without balancing it with an interesting world to explore and stuff to do that isn't limited to kill everything sight for a few hours. Spiral Knights recently fell into the same hole, and I'm still kind of smarting from that.

Looks awful, the movie trailers (which probably have nothing to do with the game) look awesome though.

People who dislike the graphics really ought to see some of the latest gameplay videos. The graphics have improved by a long shot and are especially impressive for an MMORPG.

I've been playing this for the last couple of days with gabe newell and some chick.

I've never played world of warcraft so I don't know how it compares, but I do not like this casual mmo crap. I haven't played any mmorpg besides Everquest-era free-for-all clusterfucks where it felt like you were interacting with other players and the world all at the same time, whereas this feels more like a single player game (where you can see other people running around in their single player games).

The UI and auction house is terrible but that's probably something that'll get patched eventually.

The gear and characters are bland and samey as shit, which is partially the fault of the star wars license (I guess there are only so many ways you can design plastic 80's laser guns), but probably also due to bad decisions. A more stylised art style might help (this is bioware though), but the main problem I think is that all races and classes look pretty much exactly the same: basic stock human, with a fatness slider that doesn't go very high, maybe with blue or red skin or some shit on their face that you can't see except in cutscenes.

That's really unfortunate given what they have to work with: a universe with fucking jawas and ewoks and wookiees and robots and dudes with giant tentacles growing out of their heads. You get companions that can be these things, but what that means is you're being followed around by an npc that serves to remind you at all times how boring your own dude is. There are a couple of sith armours that look neat but besides that I hope you like bath robes, trench coats and ugly hats.
I get that they don't want to model boba fett armour for jawas or have wookiees running around in blue jeans but I'd be fine with having the option of running around hairy and naked (since all the gear looks boring/bad anyway) if it meant I could go wrowrrrrurrr and pull dudes' arms out of their sockets.

pvp is hitting a button on your minimap to get queued for a "warzone", which is cool. It's also really cool that if you're sub level 50 you get scaled up to a level 49 equivalent (although if you were really high level you would have better gear and skills etc, so it's still fair to the catassers). Unfortunately there are only three warzone maps (an attack/defence thing, a point cap/king of the hill map, and poop soccer (because rebels and imperials spend a third of their time playing football right)) and they get old hell of fast. Thanks to the lack of variety nobody really gives a shit about being an asset to their team besides the level 10s who aren't sick of it yet but are pretty useless and the level 50s who have nothing better to do with their lives than getting angry on team chat. I think there are pvp sandbox planets later on? But I've also read about the devs apologising for how much these suck and promising to fix them in the future so I'm not hyped at the prospect.

The combat's pretty fun. Some people seem to like the story, but I skip through it even though I liked KOTOR, so ymmv. It's probably worth the price tag as a single player game, but not the subscription fee.
