this just looks terrible and somehow super cheap cuz all the goddam cgi

That's some pretty impressive graphical fidelity on a video game. Why are you posting that in the movie thread, though?

It's ok for a game to be cheesy, overblown and brainless but not for a movie?

I actually liked Sucker Punch and Watchmen for the same reasons, and I think the CGI is top-notch, nothing cheap about it.

It's pretty to look at, but all that artifice just makes me not at all invested in what's happening on screen.

No, it's not. I said impressive graphical fidelity. Nothing else. I certainly wouldn't like to play something like that either.

I had no problem with 300 or Watchmen. Sucker Punch was utter crap though.

HITCHCOCK: fraught with sensationalism (the scenes with Ed Gein),more centered on his wife than on hitchcock, doesn't really have nything interesting to tell.

TWIXT: interesting script, great cinematography, oldschool ambiance,a bit of WTF.  After watching I discovered that it was actually the result of a failed live-cinema experiment, but I really liked the result nonetheless. At least it didn't bore me to death like most "horror" movies do.

ゴジラ [Godzilla]
Some really cool-looking Godzilla shots. The human drama doesn't work though, and since most of it is human drama...

The Twilight Saga: Eclipse
So a friend of mine heartily recommended Breaking Dawn, but I can't remember which part, as The Room-levels of hilaribad. So then I watched the utterly boring Eclipse instead. (To be fair, the first half had a couple of funny moments but the second half was a complete dud.)

Gangsta Granny
So SVT has been doing some crazy marathoning of this movie. They showed it yesterday, and today, and will show it again tomorrow. I really don't know why. If there's one thing the world does not need more of, it's Gangsta Granny.

逆転裁判 [Ace Attorney]
Terrible. Utterly terrible. First off, it doesn't work as a standalone movie at all. You absolutely need prior knowledge of the game to understand a single thing about it. Not a single character gets a proper introduction and the cases don't make much sense unless you fill in the blanks with information from the games. And if you have played the games then you shouldn't be watching this cause they do it a million times better (and I don't even like the games to begin with).

Yesterday I watched Short Term 12, I loved it. Now I find I'm way more interested in these types of flicks, I still enjoy mindless action/over-the-top fx stuff (also watched Pacific Rim and Elysium, which I did enjoy) but I find I can get a lot more enjoyment in the long term from a film like Short Term 12.

Any other emotional real-life inspired movies like this you recommend me? Documentaries are also good, as I really like true, real life stories.

I watched the new Trailer Park Boys movie that came out last week. I really enjoy the series and the other movies. "Don't Legalize It" was a long shot from their best work, but I laughed and I got to spend some time with the boys, and that's what matters, right? I give it three out of four.

It's going to leave a lot of people with inaccurate ideas about Canadian marijuana laws, but I expect those ideas were already pretty widespread anyway.

Yeah this. Short Term 12 is a great film. One of my favorites from last year.

apparently the movies is dedicated to jodorowsky lol. this movie goes all in telling a metaphor that is not very complicated or even interesting. kristin scott thomas is the only one who does any acting and she's not very good.
