I've always heard good things about The Thing. Just saw it today. I think the best part was that it didn't expressly tell you every plot element. Like how The Thing accessed the Blood Storage. It doesn't pan down and show the keys on the floor, it's more of a (for lack of a better phrase) Blink and you'll miss it sound. And then that something like that comes back later I haven't ever seen.

Which one did you watch? I think the best is the 1982 version. It hadn't been infected by Hollywood dum yet.

I've been watching a lot of movies lately. What have you seen recently?
Here's some of what I've seen in the last few weeks (not all for the first time, of course):
12 Monkeys (reminded me a lot of La Jetee) No Country for Old Men Dogma Children of Men The Men Who Stare at Goats The Truman Show Robin Hood (with Kevin Kostner) The 7th Voyage of Sinbad Pulp Fiction
That is a pretty good list of movies

I confessed. I fell asleep through half of the movie and haven't finished watching it since. Just watched Dream Home recently. It's a horror slasher comedy from Hong Kong. I like the way it tells the story, though the ending is really disappointing. The gore department is extremely awesome though. Planning to watch 12 Angry Men, since I love courtroom drama and my friend told me that it's one of the best of that genre.

A lot of people I have talked to who were into some of the same movies as me and enjoy stuff in the same vein (Evil Dead, Battle Royale, original Dawn of the Dead, etc.) have cited this as a favorite movie, but it knocks me right out

I didn't hate Captain America, but it was definitely infected with Hollywood dum. There was almost no character development and the action scenes went on far too long and had too much cinematic music.

The thing that bothered me the most about Captain America was the sudden message switch from "you can be a hero no matter your size" to "feeling inadequate? use steroids". Otherwise it was a somewhat entertaining superhero movie, not much worse than the other ones that came out this year.

I thought the first half was really good with sympathetic characters and good development, but then things degenerated a bit when the second half kicked in and it became the typical superhero movie. I think I have this issue with most origin superhero movies; the hero's development from Average Joe to superhero is always kinda interesting, but then it all just becomes about stopping the villain.

uhm.. what exactly did you expect from a superhero movie? No way dude, have you seen X-men first class, Iron Man, Dark Knight? Super Hero movies don't have to be shitty anymore. Even for a typical / less interesting superhero movie Captain America was pretty underwhelming though
