Is it going to have four stages still?
so I know its going to have new areas but is it going to be the same as the old game and have 4 areas (cave,forest,temple,polar world)?

I haven't played Fez yet (been waiting for a patch), but they're pretty different games! My impression of Fez from reading about it is that its content is spread out more (to even outside the game itself) and the pacing is a lot more languid. Spelunky was always a dense game, and it's only gotten more dense since. And the XBLA version is quite fast-paced and arcadey in comparison to the original... maybe comparable to Pac-Man CE versus Pac-Man in that sense. (It still feels like Spelunky, though!) Kinda depends on what you're looking for! Is it going to have four stages still?

Those four stages are still in the game in the same order, but that's the baseline that we started with. I don't want to spoil anything until release, so I'll leave it at that.  I will say that there are much more special areas/level feelings within those four areas than before! Man, I hope you guys really like it!!! Let me know if you have any questions!

I had things to get done this Summer.
Actual question: You say that the XBLA game is more fast-paced and arcadey than the original... How well will skills learned in the original transfer over to the new game? And what is the most significant change that will affect this?
Basically I'm tempted to spend the rest of the week just playing Spelunky until the new game comes out. How much will this hurt me?

Seriously, I'm looking forward to this more than any other game for years, not sure why, since I've not played the previous one, but ever since I saw the preview in Edge magazine I've become slightly obsessed.

does the spelunky game include any useful tips for actual spelunking in real life? (like on loading screens or in the instruction book etc)

No, although it's already been scientifically proven that skills earned in video games translate 1:1 to real life! Local multiplayer only, right?

Yeah, local only! Try deathmatch first - I think once your friends see the whole screen explode with bombs in the first second they will never touch CoD again. |

We need a Spelunky emoticon how come we don't have that but we have this  So congrats Derek on making your legacy even greater with this game  However, I'm not sure if this is free or not, the site doesn't really say anything about it and I've never really tried anything from the XBLA so.. |
