Hi all,

I'm about to release my 2nd game and I was wondering... Would it be better to release the game under my real name, or should I release it under my psuedo-company name? Or does it even matter?

I doesn't matter as long as you stay consistent, release every game under same name/alias/logo so people start recognizing you and remembering your brand.

Agree.  If you foresee adding more team members in the future, use the pseudo-company.

Even if you release under a company name you can always put your name in the credits.

I was planning to use both a company name and my pseudo, a bit like Positech and Cliffski.

Seems good too, no? What da ya think?

I use them interchangeably myself, for my solo freeware project.  Though I'm not sure I even credit myself in the game right now, and freeware being freeware I'm not trying terribly hard to establish a brand.

Make sure you do one or the other on purpose, upfront and clearly. I released a game with no expliclt branding, but my name was on the copyright notice. The game wound up getting identified with my name all over the internet, and now I'm not sure how to pedal that back if I want to.

I would reccomend using an alias, it's easier to remember.

I use my real name because it is hard to spell and difficult to pronounce.

Aliases are probably more memorable than names. Unless your name is really memorable for some reason.

I think an alias is better in case there is some reason in the future you might want to be anonymous. But just because you use a name doesn't mean that someone can't use the same name on their games unless you take legal steps to own the name.
