basically the most trite and boring approach you can do with fighting games then huh
ofc stuff like mvc3 can get away with it so
btw this is a very dumb thing to say, in general
well combos themselves aren't a bad concept, it's just that when a fighting game makes it the focus (which is made abundantly clear in mvc3 by how easy they are to pull off), that things fall apart because it's focusing less on how a player reacts and more on how well they know the character. so the underlying mechanics of the game that make for an interesting tug-of-war get undermined and it becomes a mess of who makes a mistake first so the other can show up his immense e-bonner.
compare this to a game like vf, where the game has terrific flow, because both players are always reacting to one another. there's a constant push-and-pull, shifts, and etc. even in sf and garou, combos aren't heavily emphasized. mvc3 can be some real fighting game schlock.
I don't know about that picture, Meat Boy doesn't seem that hard to animate to me.
well, super meat boy just animates horribly, so i won't even defend it.
but why should base detail factor in animation? if anything, increased detail is sure to undermine the quality of the animation, composition, and flow. the quality animation just isn't about, wow wow look at how detailed each frame is or even how many frames there are. it's about how the principles of animation are put into work. ofc detail can account for that, depending on how sophisticated motion is and etc.
there's a ton of secondary motion, volume and form, squash and stretch, and composition in mlp that's rarely in some kid's newgrounds animation. it's also a bit of an accomplishment considering how terrible and restrictive flash animation/tweening is, heh.
the way you're talking about animation is like raising crysis 3: occlusion hell paradise as the artistic herald of gaming visuals just because it requires a 14-inch dongputer, instead of something with actual appealing art direction like
god hand CASLTEVANIA AETESSYMPHTONY OF THENGIGHT.
i dont even like mlp's animation but im defending it welp
