I'll play it once and think that it was a pretty good movie and a pretty shitty game.

I kinda agree with this, though I don't think the original was a shitty game -- it's just that the game parts kinda took away from everything else that was going on in the game. I which we would get a Bioshock exploration/adventure game instead of an FPS. I want the gameplay to focus on exploring these amazing environments, not have them be the background/setting for explosions and headshots.

I was really looking forward to the Bioshock movie when Gore Verbinski was attached to direct. Pity that didn't work out...

I think she looks pretty good, actually. Reminds me more of a Pixar movie than anime.

I'm not interested in playing any of the Bioshock games, but the art is quite nice!

I loved the nice touches in the game, at least I hope they're going to be in the game, like where he says "I'll be right back!" before jumping onto the skyrail thing. It just makes it seem like you, the player are making the story happen. Everything flows nicely and feels real.

The shooting is definitely going to ruin this game.

I can tell from the smug look on his face and from having "sucked it down" quite a bit in my time. Wink

But y'know, I like John Romero. No, really. Sure he's made a lot of missteps and it's easy to make fun of him but I'll always remember him for his amazing work on Wolf3D, Doom and Quake.

I don't know him personally, but I get the feeling that people have often mistaken his enthusiasm for arrogance. From what I've read about Romero, he seems to enjoy talking about games with pretty much anybody and has a great memory for all the games he's played and worked on. Really passionate guy. I'm not sure why people took that "bitch" advertisement so seriously... even if it wasn't his idea it seems like it was all in good fun.

Also, he's referred to himself as "one of the original indie developers" before, and I think that's great, because the environment that he developed Keen, Wolf, Doom, and Quake in is very much in the "indie spirit" (not to mention all of the games he created by himself pre-id and Softdisk). It was a very loosely organized, very fast-paced, very personal style of development. I'm not surprised he's moved back to that style after Daikatana, because it seems to suit his personality.

I'm hoping he goes back to making hardcore games, but with a small team instead of working for a big company.

It might just be coincidence, but iD definitely went downhill after he left.  Maybe it's a Beatles situation where they were great together and mediocre to terrible apart.

I can't really understand why anybody would dislike him. All the interviews I've seen with him, he seems like a nice down-to-earth guy that just likes making games. I've never seen him behave in a way that I'd even consider as arrogance. Maybe I've just managed to steer clear of the stuff that has soured some people on him?

It's got to do with the way they were rolling during Daikatana. Big luxurious offices, driving expensive cars and having Ad-Campaigns that literaly said "he's about to make you his bitch". The story behind it is pretty interesting, you might want to read up on it.
The whole "bitch" ad campaign became a sour apple when the game turned out to be rather mediocre. I don't really think people took it seriously, but with a statement this bold and a game that could not deliver on that promise, it quickly became the prime angle for the attack and backlash.

On terms of Bioshock: Infinity:
My oh dear, is that one heavily scripted scene. But I gotta say, I love the artstyle. The woman did give me an anime vibe too, not that much the look but mostly by the way she acts during combat. She's got those super powers but needs the constant protection of the emotionally stable tough guy while she's off being helpless, cowering in a corner. Everything about that scene spelt "look at me, I'm helpless, I need big male protection". Outside of combat however, she seemed interesting enough.

/edit:
And yes, I'm aware that her helplessness might just be another artstyle thing, having to do with the whole Uncle Sam in that trailer vibe.

I also suspect it has more to do with the disappointment that Daikatana turned out to be. Fans have a tendency to turn around in a split second and rail against their former idol if they feel they've been let down.

Back on topic: Yeah, it really is heavily scripted. I wonder how that's going to play out when not controlled by a player that's actually trying to show off all the scripted events and waiting patiently for them to wrap up? Stuff like that can quickly go from being immersive to absolutely breaking the illusion if the timing is off...

It's amazing what WoW light wraps, some rotated eyebrows, and doubling the X value of the facial model can do to a character.

As if it matters, she'll be dead in a refrigerator by act two.

I think Derek made a good point when he said that she's reminiscent of someone from a Pixar movie. But the thing is that none of the other characters I've seen so far have reminded me of Pixar (or anime), and that's what bothers me about her look. Granted, she, being a major character and all, needs to stand out, but to me it just looks uncanny right now. It's like putting one of the Disney princesses in the middle of an action scene out of the Transformers movies, though not to that great of an extent.
