Grr, I keep dying just before the final boss (past MOM), it practically becomes a bullet hell game at that stage and there's almost no heart drops.

But I can't stop playing.

You mean the Sheol?  Yeah, it's pretty bad.  the worst are the upgraded laser eyes. The ones in the womb were bad enough, but NOW THEY FIRE FASTER AND HAVE A LARGER BEAM.
A room with three of those took me from full health to one.  The last boss isn't even that hard.

if you ever find an Emperor tarot card, hold on to it and save it for Sheol. takes you straight to boss fight and makes the sheol a breeze. sadly though the card is kinda rare.

that happened to me when I unlocked her. I started the game later and she was locked and so was the crowe/curse. Yet it showed I had the achievements for both of them. I then re-unlocked her and haven't had that problem yet. According to yesterday's patch notes, that bug was fixed. Did you try and unlock her after this patch, and if so does it still happen?

Also fixes some problems: Run Isaac.exe in admin mode

If you're having achievement-related issues: Deleting 'Isaacachievements.exe/dll' or whatever it's called in the folder and verifying/redownloading the game. Doesn't kill any saves or etc

finally beat satan with all the characters

the key to beating him is:

1. the nail or the book of revelations or the relic, get it early and clear ALL the rooms on the floors except sheol (where you will usually lose more hearts than you gain from doing this), either of the batteries is also a good combo but less likely (revelations is pretty common, nail is common if you get satan to appear, i.e. dont get hurt on a floor and dont get hit on the boss fight). Book of revelations also gives you meat boy, if you have flying you can hover over rocks and let meat boy kill rooms safely for you to farm the soul hearts

my eve run I had that, and no offensive powerups at all, he fell easier than i thought he would for having the least possible tear damage

2. chocolate milk (chocolate milk helps pound damage onto him in his stomping form since there's little attack window when he stomps)

3. bombs, do decent damage to his stomping form just place them as you run and they'll hit him, focus on dodging the bomb leeches

4. lil gish, makes his shooting form bullets really easy to dodge since they move slower

the wafer is also really good since it basically doubles your health

pretty flies are useless since most of the sheol enemies can hit you through them anyway (explosion / melee)

mom's heart is easy, if you have a card or a pill (like full health pill or something) save it for sheol

Finally tried this game tonight. Quite a few problems, but it's pretty good overall. I wish it depended less on RNG, though... I got the farthest on my first attempt and did worse each one after that. Haven't managed to get past Depths I yet. Yes, I'm terrible at it.

As you get better you'll find the RNG isn't that important.  Most of the items you get are usable, and it seems like it'll try to buff what you already have.
But my point is that there are no outright useless items (Except of course for The Poop).
Unless it's like a use item and you have one that's clearly better.

I've posted this in the big list of developer interviews, but it might be worth mentioning here. Edmund McMillen appears on the latest episode of Roguelike Radio: http://roguelikeradio.blogspot.com/2011/11/episode-11-binding-of-isaac.html

play as eve and tell me that RNG isnt important. if you don't find a lot of dmg up upgrades or brimstone or something, the game is incredibly boring and frustrating as her. she's just so awful.

Finally beat it today. I was playing as Cain, and got a ridiculous number of health upgrades (I had 11 hearts at the end). I don't really understand what happened, though... Mom's health was only down to about half, but then it interrupted the battle to play the ending cutscene. I looked at my stats screen, and it said "Mom kills: 0". So many things about this game are confusing and not explained anywhere I can find.
