is a simple, fast-paced arcade game I've been working on for a little over a year now. This is my first dev log on here, so please let me know if I'm "not doing it right."Overview
The rules of the game are pretty simple: you control a green square and try to capture a red square. It sounds easy and, at first, it is. However, after each score, a new moving obstacle is added to the screen that you must avoid in your quest for the next red square.
In order to encourage reckless abandon, the faster you capture the red square, the more points you score--so don't be afraid to live life on the edge! It may sound a little too simple, but please give it a shot--I've found it to be fairly addictive.
Side note: I should, of course, mention that an old Flash game called Eskiv was part of the inspiration for Avoision. The main differences are the graphics, sound, scoring system, and levels of difficulty.Features
- Fast-paced, old school arcade gameplay
- Retro graphics and sound (with chiptune music by http://www.myspace.com/ladalaika/)
- Multiple levels of difficulty
- High scores lists
- Customizable controls with joystick support
Looking at the screenshot/video, you may wonder why this game has taken over a year to produce (let me know if I'm overselling it). Well, there are two main reasons: 1) it didn't actually take a full year since I only worked on it in my free time
and 2) I developed this game in parallel with an unencumbered 2D game engine on which I plan to develop subsequent games.
Basically, I wanted to start on a game that was smaller in scope to give me a better chance of actually finishing it in a reasonable amount of time (I already have enough unfinished projects in my wake).
With the latest release (v0.7), I believe I'm pretty close to calling this game "done."Web site
