"Welcome to the wonderful world of Klik'n'Play!" - Man In The Tutorial Video Of Klik'n'PlayWHAT IS KLIK?Klik or Click is a term used to describe a software created with one of Clickteam's software products. The term Klik originates from the name of the first product in the Klik range of products, Klik & Play, where the alternative spelling "Click" originates from the name "Clickteam", the creators of the software product range. The Klik range of products provides a more intuitive and high level method over traditional line-upon-line programming languages. With point-and-click there is a more interactive interface, where the user achieves their goal by clicking buttons, navigating menus, etc.
thanks wikipedia!
SO WHAT IS KLIK'N'PLAY OWNZ?KLIK'N'PLAY OWNZ is a two month long competition where we remake various games made in the Klik line of programs. These include games originally created in Klik'n'Play, The Games Factory, and Multimedia Fusion.
WHERE CAN I FIND GAMES TO REMAKE?There's no single place to find old Klik games, but The Daily Click's
Klik Museum is a good place to start. I also have a big ol' archive of Klassik Klik'n'Play games that I may at some point host somewhere.
Be aware that many KNP games do not run well in newer OSes -- notably, MMF games have a sound issue that can cause them to lock up and have audio stutter.
RULES AND GUIDELINESThe games you choose to remake should be Klik Klassiks -- games made in any of the Klik products (KNP, TGF, or MMF) that are old enough that any old timey Klikkers will recognize them. Games made in Multimedia Fusion 2 may also be accepted, but the majority of these games are too new and good to merit a remake. Ultimately, I'll be the one deciding whether or not a game can or cannot be remade as part of this competition, so if you're ever unsure, post in the thread, and I will make the "Final Decision".
As with Action 52 Owns, your remakes should not be bad! This competition lends itself to a lot of zany KNP sample overuse and library graphic wackiness, but I haven't got much of a sense of humor about these sorts of things!
Always try to maintain as much of the general tone and feel of the original games as possible. This doesn't necessarily mean you have to be completely faithful to the original game, but there should be enough trace elements of the original games that it's recognizable.
The ingame music should be as similar to the source material as possible. The one caveat to this is if the original game's music is entirely made of ripped vidja game midis (this happens a lot, and not only in the bad games, brother) -- in these cases, you can write original tunes, but again, try to keep the feel of the game consistent.
I'm imposing an arbitrary 640x480 window size limit.
All games should be runnable in an EXE file. This means no installers or anything like that. Basic rule of thumb: If I can't be bothered playing the game due to stupid installs and having to install nerd things like Python or PyGame or PyFarts, I won't play your game.
I won't limit the controls this time, but as a rule of thumb, the main action keys should be arrows, X and C and escape. Mouse control is acceptable this time around.
Anything else goes (this includes collaborations, whatever.)
THIS PROJECT WILL GO ON FOR LOOSELY 2 MONTHS (UNTIL SEPTEMBER)PRIZESShould enough entries be entered into the competition, I will PERSONALLY be contributing a small prize to this competition because I am a man with a job and a disposable income. I'm not 100% sure on how I'll handle the judging, but I'll make the decision within the 2 months this thing will go for.
WHERE DO I SIGN UP!Unlike A52O, there is no signup page. Just post your game here and it will be Counted As An Entry.
ON START OF FRAME: CREATE OBJECT "GAM" AT (0, 0), SUPERJOE: SET ALTERABLE VALUE 'banned' TO 0.
