Why would you buy a 3DS before the cool games come out? That seems like a personal error in judgment. My 3DS purchase is waiting patiently for something fun to come out that isn't an N64 game I already own.
That said, this is pretty shitty. If you're going to insist to include the players, release a prototype, and then let the sales for the prototype dictate the green light you really ought to follow through on that promise.
At the very least, Capcom should've been way more open about how this decision was reached. If it was technical hurdles that fell behind and cancelled the project, say that. If it was marketing that determined it wasn't going to meet sales figures, say it. Provide the numbers too, so players can see what's really happening. If it was because Capcom is emphasizing a different title and pulling resources, let us know.
The biggest mistake was hyping up the developer room website and insisting that fans would be driving much of the process. Had Capcom held back on that, the backlash would've been less forceful.

Time to upgrade to a DS with a less bulky form-factor and brighter screens.

I really didn't think this was the best platform for Megaman Legends 3 at all. I would've loved to have it on a current gen console, but instead were making a Megaman Legends game on a system that's about as powerful as the system it started on. Especially considering that the Dead Rising engine was originally developed for a Megaman Legends game.

I don't recall playing MML on Dreamcast For me, I knew I would have to wait some months before the good games were coming. I got it with Dead or Alive, which is pretty good and it's the first game in the series I've bought. I don't regret it at all. I'm also loving the VC, but I'm one of those few people who don't oppose paying for ROMs

The 3DS is quite a bit more powerful, actually - graphically, it's around the GameCube - Wii area. I don't think that MML3 would have sold well on next-gen systems, especially the 360. The PS3 would have seen it alright, but I think that the 3DS was the best place to put it, currently.

Good, I didn't want this crummy game anyway (Yes, I did ) So, is Megaman dead? They didn't even include him in Marvel vs Crapcom 3.

I don't think he's dead, but I'd guess that Capcom's trying to focus their time and energy on other games. It's weird - MML3 wasn't even going to be finished. People were just waiting for the Prototype version to be released on the 3DS's online store. I don't know what could possibly force Capcom to abandon development on a project before it even was considered to be finished.

My hope/thought is that Capcom realizes that Mega Man is a coveted brand, and the lukewarm reaction to MM10 made them realize they can't just dredge up old formulas and try to make a buck or two. Every Mega Man game needs to be a homerun for it to be a commercial success, and I'm guessing MML3 wasn't even close to that.

If I recall correctly, MM9 was WiiWare's best selling game for a while, though. But yeah, retail Megaman games tend to flop hard these days. And well, there's the fact that there's no Inafune anymore.

My guess is that the cancellation is earthquake-related.
Whatever, I would have boycotted their marketing tactics anyway. Selling a demo is just really bad form imo.

now, we never know how the story goes, Megaman will forever stuck in Elysium, and Roll and Trone will forever fail in building a rocket to fetch Megaman. yes, this is the unspoken sequel that Capcom gave us.
