So Bastion came out yesterday. For those who are unaware, it's on the front page of TIGS, and is for XBLA with a PC release in the works.

I'm still playing through the story for the first time around right now, and I have to say, this game is amazing. I had always dreamed of making a game that was like this one, with lush graphics, a world that built itself and a story I could really sink my teeth into, all wrapped up with an action-RPG bow. The narrator adds a great dimension of life to the world and game, which I've seen some review sites say is annoying, but I think it fits so well, and have yet to feel like it's being overused.

I've seen a lot of good reviews for this game so far, and to just push my personal bias, it's the best xbla title I've seen since Castle Crashers. It's also an indie title made by only SEVEN people. This game makes me want to take the time to admire the graphics, to stop and smell the roses so to speak.

As the title states though, this is the game I wish I had made. I'm finding myself majorly in uncanny valley, finding parallels between personal project ideas and this game, which I'm not entirely pissed about. I once wanted to make a world that built itself as you played. What's even weirder is that one game I was working on had a main character that looked a lot like the Kid. I don't really know what to make of these similarities, it feels so weird to see a game you've always dreamed existed ACTUALLY EXIST.

Anyways, I've yet to finish the story but once I do I'd like to discuss it further. For now I would just say this is a great game worth checking out, and any other fans out there, let's hear about it!

I read this earlier and didn't comment because I was too busy buying the game.

I am enjoying the game, I got as far as zulf, and so far it seems like a fun adventure / collect-em-up. I like the different options of weapons and was impressed that the narrator commented that my choice was similar to that of the old hunters.
Certainly worth the playthrough.

Been hearing a lot of good about Bastion, so I'm waiting for it to come out for the PC. Hopefully it won't be too long.

I can't stop playing this! It's gorgeous and plays really smoothly. There is a lot of skill-based mechanics with the movement and weapons, and I've yet to hit a dry point.

I love how you build up the Bastion and develop a sense of ownership with it.

I just find there is so much to do, and so many ways to play. Don't want to do the story? Do the weapon challenges or do the arena challenge events.

Only gripes would be that it sucks to HAVE to equip a weapon if you want to pick it up. They needed some kind of contextual system for that.

anyone playing the pc release of bastion? it was on sale on steam for 10$ recently so i picked it up; it's pretty amazing. i only dislike that it's short and that there's a lack of exploration (it focuses on fighting almost exclusively). but the story, visuals, music are all nearly perfect. it'd be nice if they made a sequel and expanded the world and ideas a bit

I'm about halfway through it and love it, but I agree on the lack of real exploration. I'm terrible at most of the proving grounds though. A big part is what upgrades you choose for the weapons, and without any upgrades they're nearly impossible.

For the most part the game is pretty forgiving. Although things seem hectic all the time, there are ample pots and the retry system for if you die.

I played this on PC and enjoyed it a lot. The wonderful isometric visuals coupled with the serious tone and subject matter reminded me of Little Big Adventure, but with an atmosphere all its own... and I adore the music. I was humming Zia's song for days.

I liked how the weapon choices let you try vastly different play styles. I mostly favoured the hammer and bow but I quite liked the pike and musket as well. And the shield allowed for some interesting strategies.

Loved the narrator.

I also played on PC and I loved it.  For those trying the PC version, I recommend switching to the mouse-based control scheme (I think it's called the "Mason" control scheme), where you move using the mouse similarly to games like Diablo.  This gives much better control of movement than the WASD keys do.  Or you can just plug in a gamepad, although the game didn't detect my third-party pad.

As others have said, the actual gameplay isn't all that special, although it's well done.  But the story, atmosphere, and sound design are fantastic.  I highly recommend it.
