Hopefully this won't just be a reskinned No More Heroes.

killer7 was easily the perfect balance between what he's doing now, and what he used to do. that's why I wish he would take what he's learned from NMH/SotD and make something with the level of intelligence that killer7 had. he's got a metric fuck ton more potential than what he's doing here.

Haven't played SotD, so I can't weigh in there, but Killer7 & NMH seemed about equal in terms of style and 'sophistication' to me. One was more blatant, sure, but they seemed to just be Suda following a noir and action framework, respectively.

K7 and FSR were both not very "deep" imo. K7 had a bit of conspiracy theory stuff thrown in, but overall the plot reminded me more of something like Metal Gear Solid: a mess of overwrought animu storytelling with lots of unlikely and ridiculous twists. Not saying that's bad, but it isn't exacly high literature.

The dialog in Suda's games isn't really deep either. It's more akin to the "philosophical" dialog in martial arts movies and often seems to be about weird characters saying weird shit for the sake it more than anything.

Idk I enjoy Suda's games because they're crazy pop culture pastiches not because of any supposed "sophistication."

Not knowing any more details than 'Cheerleader with Chainsaw vs Zombies' makes me think this is going to be much like SotD, except with more melee and panty shots, and less guns and penis jokes.

He does seem to have a thing for disembodied head sidekicks.

"she's POWERFUL and IN CONTROL OF HER SEXUALITY"

Good female character score card By, Leigh Kotaku

+10,000 pts for being a capable female character who is capable of being a female character who is capable of doing the things this female character has to do in a game.  Too often do we see playable female video game characters who cannot do the things we need them to do in video games.  Example, in every fighting game ever played, Soul Caliber 2, all the female characters were much weaker than the male characters.  I found that to be very misogynistic but I guess it's to be expect of Japan.

+413 pts for being dressed up as a cheerleader and being sexy.  Now I know you're saying, Mrs. Kotaku, surely you must be joking.  That outfit might as well be a pair of shackles binding her to the dick of another man.  Not so, because this is done with that classic Suda51 humor™.  It is actually done ironicle!  In fact she is so assertively sexual that she is being sexual for herself.  Look at her, no actual man would find herself turned on  by such a thing because it's just too sexy and silly.  She dresses like that because she owns her body and she doesn't do it to impress anyone but herself.  Also, enjoy fapping to numerous doujins and images of her in the near future where she is drawn with even bigger breasts and getting gangbanged by disembodied zombie dick.  Remember to underscore spaces on Booru-style sites, guys!

+612 pts For having a male zombie head in tow.  Uh oh, look out boys!  Looks like this time the lady is in charge of leading the man around!  This is actually a very important point, even though I would never bring up why this would be important in Shadows of the Damned.  This throws the conventions of video gaming on its head.  A complete one-eighty from what misogynistic Japs tend to sling our way and pass off as a working male-female relationship.  This is, in fact, humorous commentation on that!  It's refreshing to see a man who is helpless and useless instead of the female.

FINAL SCORE - 9 Decinettas
(not an average)

I'd just like to chime in here and say that Duke Nukem Forever is a piece of shit and doesn't deserve to be seriously discussed anywhere under any circumstances, not even by Intyrnyt Fymynysts(tm).

So apparently James Gunn is working on this game. That's a person that I like.

I've heard good things about suda51, and some of his other stuff seems sort of interesting, but this looks awful. Haven't we learned from the critical reception of recent works like Sucker Punch and Duke Nukem Forever? It's 2011, friends. If there was ever a time at all when the public thought sexism was cool, that time is certainly not now.
