Saw some of it today, played some of it today. If you remember that it's unashamedly dumb exploitation and not just putting on airs about irony, it's not bad at all. Which is kind of the problem. Bmup mechanics: Competent but nothing original. Humour: Varies widely, good then lame. Originality: Clever battles and mechanics, and then dull hack and slash, and back and forth.
The entire thing is moderate, but it's not really middle of the road, so it does have its high points, and low points.
Don't pay 60 for it, but if you like ridiculous games or you like 3d spectacle fighters where every enemy is just chaff before the scythe, it's well worth a rent or a cheap pickup.

I work next to a Gamestop and a homeless person that frequents the strip mall has spent a lot of time in the last two weeks staring at the poster for this game.

The strangest thing to me is the pretty high critical reception the game is receiving. I am also surprised there has been no outrage uproar about how the game portrays high school girls and instead is passed off as "oh Suda and his humor."
I ordered it on launch day since the price dropped to $45, which seems odd for a launch.

the game has a 70 on metacritic. that's extremely low by game journalism standards

I didn't even checkout the Metacritic score to be honest, but now that I have it is clear the 20% from whatever review that was is what brought it down drastically ( looking at that review, it is kind of four paragraph high-school quality review). My point, which I wasn't clear about enough, was that I am surprised it is receiving any high marks. For games like Lollipop Chainsaw, the reviews interest me because it is fascinating to see how the "critics" recieve the game. I guess those few sites with some really good reviews surprised me, that's all. How is the soundtrack in the game, for those who played it/are playing it?

The soundtrack is great. The score is mostly upbeat punky guitar riffs, and there's some fantastic licensed music choices. Toni Basil's "Mickey" plays every time you use your fully-charged super chainsaw attack thingy. How is that not awesome. I finished the game in one night, which was actually a refreshing change of pace from the usual 12+ hour sort of games. The first hour or two are pretty janky; the camera and movement feel a little loose and the constant pauses for training messages are annoying, but the writing and gameplay both really hit their stride by the second or third level. It's no Bayonetta, but I had fun with it. I'll probably give it another playthrough eventually, try for higher scores and whatnot. At $45, it's definitely worth playing.

I've played games with worse scores that I've enjoyed far more. I find it harder and harder to just sit down and nod my head to Suda51's perverted chauvinist attitude that infects every game he makes. Killer 7 must have been somebody else's baby, since it sure as hell doesn't match the rest of his oeuvre.

dude have you played flower sun and rain? there's old suda and new suda. the silver case is reportedly similar but its japanese only so far (afaik). mikami was probably responsible for killer7 actually being a good game on top of being like weird / stylish / whatever.
