You can also fork over the price of a Dota 2 Invite Bundle to someone who owns the game and then ask them to buy the bundle and send the invite to you (if they're nice, maybe they'll give you the other stuff in the bundle too, like a piggy courier and stuff). But I'll warn you that this is pricey.
I've updated the first post so it now has links to each person's Steam profile. Maybe it'll even be useful now! If someone is totally offended that I linked to their profile, tell me and I'll remove you from the list.

It is also possible to get a key for roughly 4€ but you gotta find someone that trades 2 keys (for opening chests) for a Dota 2 invite. This was the exchange rate last time I checked, but I think you can only do it in Dota 2 so someone in the beta has to do it for you.

You can add me to the "Have keys but don't do much with them" group. I may get into it at some point, but it seems like a really involved game that will take a while to get good at and I don't have the energy for that.

If anyone here owns a key and honestly wants to learn the basics or become better at the game, I am willing to provide advice and play with them in bot games for as long as they want. The game has no tutorial right now so I want to make sure everyone has the chance to learn at their own pace.

Maybe I'll take you up on that. I don't have much going on this summer. I added you ("EMACS"). Edit: In fact, I totally want to get into this now. I think I'm getting tired of TF2 being my "main" multiplayer game. I just end up acting like a retard over the mic and that retardation leaks into my other social interactions.

I used to play TF2 on the reg, but since Dota 2, not more than once a month...
It's a damn fun game
Playing with nillo when I was first getting back in was sweet. Now I'm almost to 300 wins :y

I used to play LoL and finally decided to request an invite. Got it yesterday and tried the game out on a bot match. I already knew there was a bunch of stuff I didn't know. Probably should of read over all the heros and items beforehand. Also wasn't sure about finer points of controls like how to deny. Didn't really matter anyway since the bot heroes never appeared which caused a cascade of leaves until it was just me and some other guy.
Was a bit surprised by how dangerous towers are compared to LoL. Much higher range and able to kill you quicker. Also by the tower sometimes attacking me at random when some of my creeps were closer. Either way, I finished the pathetic game with about 6 deaths from towers.

Whoaaaaaaa wait
No
Towers in this game are chickenshit in comparison to towers in league
In this game you defend towers
In league towers defend you
You can dive someone in relative safety fairly early in dota
Like, at lvl 3

it seems like dota towers have less damage early on but have greater range and shoot faster

They definitely seemed to shoot faster and have better range to me. Probably just because I wasn't used to it, but yeah, quite a few unexpected deaths due to not being able to get away in time.

protipz, if you press a and then press one of your minions or another champ under the tower, the tower will reset aggro. the tower aggro will also be reset if they kill their target or it moves out of range. when it's reset, they go for whoever is closest / doing the most damage to it. if you RIGHT CLICK on an enemy hero under the tower it will target you.
and because of how they work, you can totally dive someone even at level 1. as long as you just use spells and are careful with positioning, the tower won't even hit you. or if you wait to attack them until you're actually next to them, instead of just right clicking on them to move over to them.

You can add me to the "has a key and doesn't do much with it" list. I'm in pretty much the same position as Nix.
