Anyone know what's up with the star next to your name in the player list?

It lets you know which player you are or it could be who is party leader i was playing with 4 friends today and i always had the star next to my name, but i was also party leader, so that's kind of a bad test

It's always been noobs.
Dota 2 also just got a new tutorial mode that helps new players learn the basics, so you don't have to just jump right in and be super confused.

I'm loving the new (for me anyway) Living Armor on Treant. I think that's my new fav hero.
Is it too nooby that I love buying Urn on almost all heroes?

Nah, some items are just flexible like that. You can fit an Urn into the item builds of most heroes if you're feeling up for it, because it's cheap and has multiple uses. It's the same with Drums of Endurance. My friend Jon is like that too. He gets tons of Urns while I personally never buy it. Another item he loves to get is Force Staff because it lets you do all kinds of crazy shit and always feels like it has a use in the situation you're facing.

Force staff is pretty cool though I always forget it exists. I somehow always opt for Rod of Atos on many int heroes, probably because Hex is steeper and I don't like Eul's... I haven't noticed much people use or like Atos though.

I like Rod of Atos but I do admit it is a bit non-standard. It's not completely necessary on any hero to my knowledge, but there are a few who do benefit from it a great deal. Basically, if you play a hero who relies on enemies not moving too far in a short time, then Atos is a good choice. Ancient Apparition makes good use of Atos for example, since it keeps them in place long enough to trigger his stun effect. Same with Lina and her stun. Skywrath Mage's ultimate is notoriously difficult to aim, so if he gets Atos it becomes much easier for him to use his skills and reduces the risk of whiffing an ultimate.

All of my previously very productive free time is now consumed watching The International 3 matches. Beyondthesummit does a really good job casting, i'm impressed.
