New hero picker is terrible! Love the new dash though!
I find myself (and my team) scrolling through the heros and confusing the *$@% out of my team by making them think I'm picking something I just of happen to be resting on randomly
before I used to be like "Oh you are picking X" I'll highlight over tide to bring the group together then the rest see that and follow my lead and then switch quickly to panda when the reason I wanted tide changes.
Now it's like 4 casino 777 reels going and then sometimes stopping on a few picks only to start again the comps have been noticeably worse picked. Even if it's just one guy not typing in his pick it's madness.

There's a rumor that the new hero cards will be taken away on launch and that you'll have to buy boosters to get new heroes??? and items and stuff???
Which really makes me want to kill someone, but it's just a rumor and until the anti-fun scheme gets implemented I can deal with whatever horrid interface they throw at me, as long as I can still play.

There will be cosmetic items, but I'm pretty sure no one has ever said that Dota 2 will use a hero unlock system like League of Legends does and it would be stupid for Valve to implement such a system. So unless there is any sort of evidence, I would ignore that rumor.

They are used for layouts (just like TF2). You equip items, custom couriers, taunts and special animations with it. They went with a card aesthetic to quickly show you what you have equipped and the hero's spell icons. It is simply the style they decided to go for, and just because they look like cards not not imply you will have to 'collect' the heroes like trading cards.

Bet someone at Valve will end up making a card game version of Dota now.

you can turn on some kind of grid display for the hero picker, which makes it usable
i dont know what they were thinking with that scrolling thing

somewhat usable. I still find it quite clumsy.
it's received a wealth of complaints and suggestions so it probably won't last long in it's current state. doubt the cards will go away though.
I would welcome a legacy setting for the old picker, but I don't think that's likely.

Valve is generally pretty good at not screwing over the people that support their games, so I'm sure they'll listen to feedback
I just hate that the first character in the scroll list in Alch. It's disheartening seeing everyone on your time queueing up for Alch, even if none of them will pick him.

I think if they just got rid of "Radiant vs Dire" heroes and just lumped them alphabetically into their primary stats that would be best.

Venomancer is a support and cannot carry games because he lacks scaling abilities. He is relatively item-independent, and at most needs two items to do his job (Scepter and an initiation tool like Invis/Force/Blink).
Necrolyte is a durable carry and cannot support because all his abilities scale with items. Even his heal costs a lot of mana so he needs items to use it well. Ideally, he should go full tank items and have Bloodstone, Shivas and Heart at the end of the game.
The amount of people who think Necro should support because he's Intelligence (and conversely, that Venomancer can carry because he's Agility) is staggering.

veno is support (he's basically an int, his auto attack isn't that good later and the rest of his skills peak really early on)
necro is carry (he has 1 support move and it costs a shitload of mana for only a minor amount of healing, he has a scaling aura, a move that ENCOURAGES him to last hit, and a killsteal move as an ult, nothing about his set is support-worthy, and he needs expensive items to do well)
