The game said I abandoned in the middle of a match while I was playing

Is there a typical build order for champions or is that one of those things from LoL i need to throw in the crapper?

That and the word champions. Traditionally, they are called "Heroes" in Dota

there's really no typical build order, there are so many variables to be taken into account when playing a match. but generally speaking there are a few items that a team should (not necessarily always) have: urn of shadows, arcane boots, mekansm, and pipe of insight. really bugs me when no one buys those items, especially when I see a crystal maiden rush a black king bar for her ult instead of spending that money to help her team.

also you'll never regret buying a magic wand. usually always grab a magic stick from the side shop after my boots, such a good item.

even in lol there shouldnt be a typical build order, you should adapt around the other team

even moreso in dota

if you are not sure what item to get though "black king bar" is pretty much always the answer

I set my "select all other units" to F2, as F1 is select hero and F3 is select courier.

I generally don't manage groups of spiderlings (unlike treants, which I do) so it's perfect for when I play BM

I've been trying a couple of other heroes and so far I hate everybody who isn't spider lady. I guess there's like a hundred others that I haven't tried yet though~

That's basically what I've got, but the 1 and 2 keys rather than function keys because if I were setting control groups, that's what those groups would be anyway.

Since I'm talking about keys, what do you guys do for hotkeying items. I'm pretty sure my current setup is bad.

My setup is like this:
1,2,3,4,5,6 - Use item in inventory slot
F1 - Select hero
F2 - Select courier

The rest is default keys for everything. QWER for spells, etc. I think I put ZXC as my keys for control groups, but I don't remember because I don't really play heroes that care about control groups ever. If I random Chen, I've basically resigned myself to not playing the hero properly and just go with a "hilarious" build like Lifesteal/Crits or Dagon 5.

oooh config talk. I'm always trying to improve it, but changing a config i'm used to has always the downside of getting the keys wrong for such a long time

A,S,D,C > skills 1,2,3, ult
F,V > skills 4,5

Z,X > Hold, Attack

B,` > Courier, deliver items

The server I was on crashed and wouldn't let me rejoin, so I left the game and now I'm in the low priority queue for 24 hours.

if a server crashes everyone will d/c and no one will get an abandon. perhaps it was only you that had connection problems?
