So over the past few years, a few companies have started open sourcing their games (or providing some sort of modified source). Along a similar vein, there are some remakes of older commercial games that go above and beyond the original content. This thread is to recognize not only those games, but also games that have spawned from this released code.
Beyond the Red Line (
http://www.game-warden.com/bsg/)
Total conversion based off of the released Freespace 2 source. Looks pretty good so far, if you're into arcade space simulaters.
Enigma (
http://www.nongnu.org/enigma/)
Oxyd was a game (or series, rather) where you had to solve puzzles by controlling some black marble thingie. The ultimate goal of each level is to hit two boxes that have the same color, but there are obstacles in the way to prevent you from doing so. Think of it as a more active version of the game "Memory". Anyway, some developers decided that Oxyd should be remade and given tons more levels. Thus, Enigma was created.
Micropolis (
http://www.donhopkins.com/home/micropolis/ and may have been mentioned here on TIG before)
After finding that the Unix version of SimCity was no longer profitable, the source code was cleaned up, made cross-platform, and two newer versions were created: OLPC SimCity and Micropolis. Essentially the same product, Micropolis is just the GPL'd non-QA'd version of OLPC SimCity. Retains the same gameplay as SimCity, but without the plane crash disaster. I guess some skilled developer could try tinkering around with it to make it more Simcity 3000-like, but only time will tell. [As an aside, in the developer's blog, he stated that EA could take contributions to the Micropolis source and stick them in the OLPC SimCity fork, but wouldn't that force OLPC SimCity to be GPL'd as well? Oh well, that's why I'm not in law.]
(also see LinCity [

Crack Attack! (
http://aluminumangel.org/attack/)
An "older" game on this list (it's been around for a while), Crack Attack! is based on the gameplay of match 3-ish puzzle games like Pokemon Puzzle League and Tetris Attack (Panel de Pon in Japan). If you haven't played any of those games, you have a field of multicolored blocks rising from the bottom of the screen, which you must match 3 blocks of the same color in order to clear. As usual, after the blocks clear, blocks above will fall, and you can create chains galore. The one twist that Crack Attack! has over the other games is that the single player mode is not against the CPU. Instead, you are sort of playing against yourself. If you create lots of combos, stacks of blocks will pile on your existing blocks, making it harder to last long if you're trying to be fancy. Tough to explain in words, but try it out anyway. It's a good time.
Feel free to mention any other games that you have heard of or played.
