If a social game were to appeal to me at all, it'd be because I'd actually do something social with my friends, say go out on a quest or beat each other up or something equally exciting. In that regard, Monster Hunter 3 and Smash Bros. are my favorite "social games". However, in this context, I see nothing redeeming about farming for things that don't do anything short of make you feel better about your time sunk into the game.

To be fair, Monster Hunter has quite a bit of grinding and slot machine crap going on as well. I don't think mining for ore and hoping that your pickaxe doesn't break is any more fun or meaningful than clicking cows in Farmville, tbh.
Don't get me wrong I like MH. I just thought I'd point that out.

mining and beat the monster again and again for the stuff you need until they're extinct are the most boring part of the game. but it quite rewarding if you actually forge a good weapon and beat the hell out of the monster that previously cannot. more rewarding and satisfying than any grinding system on social network game. in the end, they just wanna rob your hard earn money.

The poll seems pretty unanimous. Yeah, closing it now. Zynga found a way to make money out of it and now everyone is just trying to be them without trying anything new. So, what would be something new in your opinion? I like the idea of beating the crap out of something to get something to beat the crap out of your friends idea. I was thinking of having some military mechanic like civilazation does.

I started playing Civilization on Facebook and it has nothing to do with real Civ :/ Facebook gives you access to all your "real" friends, not just your gamming buddies. It looks perfect to me for games with focus on creating and sharing stuff like Little Big Planet.

One a similar note, if something like playpen could be tied to a social network, that could be pretty interesting -- for a slightly less chaotic, more coherent experience.

Social games are from Hitler.
I heard that he has once put Edmund McMillen on a concentration camp and he stood there making flash games all day long.

Before the thread gets too derailed further: That's sad though. That's one of the things I've heard about those. Say your one thing on the label and then you get inside and it's something else. Or it just tries to get you to beg your friends to play. Ugh.
